I have a I7 940 at the house im im trying to find the best X58 chipset. I've been trying to find out the best motherboard for upgradeability and overclocking im currently looking at an LC setup with 2x Sapphire 5850 toxics 12Gb of memory (patriot brand 3x4) and i want easy high overclock ability also im looking at 2x intel 80GB SSD's (game performance) and 1 160GB intel SSD(media performance) with a 600GB velociraptor (data).
From what i can tell Majority of ppl are saying the Gigabyte Extreme board followed by the Rapage II GENE, MSI x-power yet none of the EVGA boards are listed???
I mean for 1 the 4x SLI is 2 much OK i gotta buy a bigger chassis and im never gonna go beyond 3 toxics being 2 is 2 much already. I want to fit everything easily and get max use out of it and still have some room 2 uppgrade years down the road. THanks for any assistance.
P.S> the case im currently thinking about is the HAF 932 but i may go ahead and get DD new case

ive read very good things about the higher (and lower) gigabyte boards, thats actually the brand i went with recently when i bought a new one(1156 though)
ive heard that the rampage 2 series was only ok but the 3 series was really good
the evga sli le board thats on here so much is because most people here dont really overclock for themselves so motherboards are looked at as more of a price:use thing then a price:reliable and extreme overclocking like in your case
the 932 can hold almost any modern mobo unless its purposely oversized (i have that as well)

You think EVGA boards don't overclock well? Pray tell, your reasoning for that?

thats not what i said, i said extreme overclocking ability isnt what most people who come here looking for builds care about, since they dont even overclock on their own
because of that, the generic answer is the evga le because its so cost effecient and the people shopping arent looking to drop another $200 on an rampage iii that isnt going to overclock any better in the free dso range of 3.9ish

from what i can determine the Gigabyte board that just got released is King
The Gigabyte -x58- UD9 with the full 24 phase followed by asus P6t6 ws revolution with the true 3x sli and finally the MSI x-power 4 price wonder y DS dont offer gigabyte boards??? Edited by inferno23 - 07 Aug 2010 at 2:08am |
