we have not seen the extreme come out yet but over 4.0GHz for sure, the 920 is hitting 4.0GHz so I'm sure the 965 will be mid 4s

Yes, I have the same question, but was hoping for a more detailed answer.  I have been waiting to order a new computer from DS until I could get some more info on OC speeds of the i7 920 vs. the 940 (to decide which I want to go with).  Any word on the OC speeds for each of them on LC? And which stage of LC?  Any and all help is much appreciated.

frostbite is the one you want as far as cooling goes.

we have not seen any 940 or 965 yet, they are beginning to roll out slowly, in a couple of weeks we should have a good number and be able to tell average OC speeds.

StLBluesFan and JamesAstro, you both will have room to push your OC if you like when you get your pc but 4.0GHz is great

Yeah, I was thinking it might go higher. However, I'm an overclocking noob, so I might just leave it where it is.

I'll definitely post some pics this weekend. Dang this thing is fast! My old system with a 260 GTX only got about 45 fps while playing Tomb Raider. The new system gets between 150 and 200 fps!

Okay all, now I'm confused.............why would the 920, 940 and 965 all be getting OC's of 4.0?  Especially the 965?  Are those all on stage 3 frostbite LC?  If these are accurrate, why would we buy the 965 (or even the 940) over the 920? (especially a newbie like me who doesn't plan on trying to mess with the OC myself...........I'll just take what DS gets for me, since I wouldn't know what the heck I was doing anyway Smile

965 is able to achive higher OC if you tweak it yourself, DS does moderate Ocing, so you always have room to push it yourself, the 965 also can handle higher speed ram then 920 and 940.

Really doesn't make sense for DS to be putting out 940 and 965 i7 chips at 4ghz most people have there pc oced by ds so they dont have to mess with it so who would buy a 1000$ chip when the 500$ one is acheiving the same thing? It would be cool if ds had a chart set up that showed what ocs are going out of the store and how many are oced to what.

Well what happened was... when I called in the change they thought I wanted 2 extra rads and not just a dual so they gave me 3 total! haha They had to take out an optical drive to fit the 3rd one in. I am pretty sure they are Swiftech.

I totally agree, which is why I'm still trying to figure this out........don't want to make a purchase until I hear what OC's their getting (and with good stability) with each chip, and wether or not I need to go with LC to get it (or if air cooling is sufficient).  Any info on this is appreciated!

Thanks for the info DST4ME!
Really? Higher speed RAM?  Then what RAM speed should I choose with the 940 vs. the 965?  And once I choose it, should I have the RAM OC'd also, or is that not worth it?

I would LOVE to just get the best (965) but unfortunately I have a budget.  The problem is it is a budget with a "soft cap", meaning I might be willing to exceed it by a bit but only if I was convinced it was worth it. (Almost wish I had a hard-cap budget..........would make the decisions a lot easier!Wink)

I gotcha as far as not all 920's will hit 4.0.........which is why I want to wait and see what the "normal" or average is for each chip when "moderately" OC'd by DS.  Any and all numbers from those getting these systems is much appreciated!Ouch
