So I've had my build for 9 months now. I've been monitoring temps on my CPU with the AIO and noticed I sit at 84 C on my package temps while gaming. I have a friend with a 10900k who games with me and his package temps never go above 74 C. We both have a 240mm AIO. I'm wondering if there's an issue with my AIO or if potentially a new thermal paste application would benefit my temps. Any fellow 10900k users with any experience or advice? Much love and appreciation.

Hi Peon…Your temps are fine, well within safe zone.   I personally like a few degrees lower but a lot depends on the chip.   Not all chips are created equal and falls within the “silicon lottery” theory. Your friends chip could just be a better binned cpu, meaning where it was on the disc before being seperated after manufacture, or his paste is a bit better applied.     Your temps don’t warrant reapplying new paste but if your comfortable doing it then go for it. No guarantees however.

I concur. The CPU won't throttle until 95ºC or higher --also, initially, it will be just capping the boost speed.

Returning to the possible causes of the CPU temps difference:

• room temp
• graphics card

Even a front mounted AIO cooler (typically configured as an intake) will be affected by the interior case temp (e.g. graphics card heat). Additionally, your PC will increase the room temp, as much as +10ºC is not unheard of, recycling and further heating the hotter and hotter air.

Make sure you do regular dusting and cleaning of the radiator and fans to keep the cooling at its best.
Enjoy.
