Topic: Iced Tea + Computer= *UPDATE with pics. Posted: 02 Aug 2012 at 2:29pm |
Yesterday I was going into the computer room with a glass of ice cold tea. You know New Orleans and iced tea. Went to set my glass on the desk and knocked the glass over. Tea everywhere. OMG tea runs across the top of my syndicate and gets sucked in (great frickin fans) to the inside. I literally got down on the floor took my tee off and put it on top of the syndicate to stop "The Tea Syndrome" from happening.
A roll of paper towels later and my syndicate partly disassembled I cried. The computer was on when this happened and I could hear a sizzle and it shut down. Put two fans on it for an hour then tried to turn it on. No joy. Called DS at that point. As they were getting ready to close the suggestion was to keep the fans on all night and maybe it would restart. And they would call back today. Well ha! This morning I tried again. No joy. DS called me back about two hours ago and I'm sending my Black Ops back to be fixed. Bryan(with a y) in tech support was very nice and didn't laugh about the tea. Just tried to help. I can only imagine what this is going to cost. But I'm going to add some things and upgrade the things that were destroyed. It's not even a YEAR OLD. Will I laugh about this some day? Hell no! I'm having to use my AlienWare laptop.

And I have always been extra careful. Sigh. If the fans on top weren't there everything would have been cool.

Ouch. I'm sorry to hear your story, but stay hopeful. If anyone can fix it up quickly and correctly for a (hopefully) decent price, it is DS.

I feel for you. Did the same thing many years ago. I ended up building a shelf above my desk for the tower. Looked like crap with cables hanging down but I never wanted that sick feeling again. Hope you get your machine back soon.

That's my biggest fear about my sydicate :) I've already made jokes to my friends about accidentally pouring water down from the top fans. Top Fans + Water = Water sprinkler!!! I specifically labeled the edge of my table for "DRINKS ONLY" lol

I hate FEDEX! They were supposed to pick up my computer Tuesday. But no they didn't. After many phone calls and losing my temper they picked it up today. I am so sick of talking to call centers located in other countries. Half the time I couldn't understand a word they said.
On another note. My Alienware M17x laptop (two years old) just crashed with "no OS found". Now it's down to my IPad. Jeesh |

I'm beginning to wonder what kind of people they hired after those of us who started the company retired ?????? In the old days the call center was in Memphis....they moved that too ????? FedEx used to be great.....after listening to all the stories here...especially the other one with xii's delivery.....I'm starting to think Walmart is running it. Bobby

@Bobby - lol walmart! Sad but true.
@RPGr - NOW I see why you said what you said in my review, traditionally I would agree however, my Aventum is setup in a drink proof way due to placement. Alas, the Alienware might be better off with "No OS" want mine? Try to think about how your PC will be better when you get it back and it won't smell like Iced Tea and shorted electronics (I hate that smell). Regards, hang in there. Xii |

Hi oldlady,
So sorry to read about your problem. I can imagine how bad you felt at the time. I will add this to my list of reasons not to put your computer under a desk or table. Frank |

Can this get any worse? Yes. FedEx damaged the case of my computer so bad it has to be replaced!!!! They bent the wheel? How hard do you have to throw something to bend a wheel that is tightly wrapped? It's a wheel. Steel and they bent it? They broke the plexiglass/acrylic sides. Etc.
Will I be making a claim? Of course! But my god what will they do on the return trip? |

... Sorry to post this.
Alex - I know, truly as I have been personally involved.. know that you all do what you can to ensure these packages get to us in one piece but.. really. Is there no way we can make this shipping thing change? I've counted and these shipping issues are seemingly common, mind you I do not have access to the data you do. Imagine for a moment, you save and work and sacrifice to get this PC that you might not want but actually need, and be it a RMA, shipping issue or whatnot it has to return to Digital Storm, the excitement of opening that box is now dimmed. Now - take that and imagine it leaves your business perfect, which again, I truly believe it does. Now add to that, as above it gets to the customer looking like a soup sandwich. Do you know what that feels like? There must be a way, as a business for you guys to reach out to this carrier and make them take notice. If it was me (and I know you guys cant just do things at random as a business) and someone was giving me bad business - Id find a new person to do business with. I am not saying DS is doing bad business, I am saying FE is dimming the computer experience that you as a team provide. An.. experience they pay well for. The time for action is now. /gets off soapbox PS - Oh .. and remember Fedex tried to not deliver my package. Edited by xii - 16 Aug 2012 at 6:14pm |

Alex always gives (understandably) vague comments about the number of DS rigs that are damaged in transit, and that the number is low.
Alex also said that the forums represent approximately 15% of their customer flow. Of that 15%, I'd say roughly 3-4% seem to run into some kind shipping related issue, be it a tiny, easily fixed dislodging, up to the complete destruction of a LC system. I don't doubt Digital Storm's packaging, when I got my rig I genuinely felt like the packaging was far above average, and way, way beyond the bare minimum that big box manufacturer's use. I also know that by the very nature of the product, shipping damage is a risk, but still, I feel as if xii has some good points. Obviously, as we don't see the same data as DS management does, we can't make fully accurate comments though. |

I feel your pain oldladyRPGer because it happened to me with my $10,000.00 computer DS built me. DS even shipped mine in there alumnium suitcase, supposed to be the ultimate way. FedEx broke my motherboard and my glossy Black Plexglass side cover. I was so mad I could spit nails. After DS fixed it they had me give them a commercial shipping address to ship it back to me so it wouldnt get broke again in transit. It worked, no damage, happy customer in the alumnium suitcase. GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!

What do you mean by a commercial shipping address? I've had mine shipped to my home previously. I've had to now RMA my new pc twice (it will arrive at DS tomorrow), possibly due to FedEx using it as a pinata. If there are better shipping options available to avoid any more issues when they send it back I'm all ears

Very well said xii I was very disappointed when I first opened my Syndicate and seeing all the hinges broken off my cylinder reservoir's and laying on my motherboard thank god the liquid didn't come out. Also how my case isn't leveled because of them throwing it around.
