i have been saying for YEARS on this form (and i took a year break!) that i need to upgrade and im doing it tomorrow......
well my truck broke down, and i fixed up a 62 Lincoln continental.....that takes money! currently im running on my old 1.86 dual core 2 gigs of 667mhz ram 9800gt overclocked/aftermarket cooler random intel mobo ------------------------------------ what made me finally do it was red orchestra heroes of Stalingrad....i cant run my favorite developers flagship game... so i JUST ordered MSI 990fx AM3+ mobo phenom2 1090T 6 core at 3.2 ghz arctic cooling freezer 13 pro (120 and 50mm fans) 4 gigs of mushkin redline at 1600mhz i will also be getting a 6970 when tehy get back into stock...but till then TRI-SLI-legacey 9800gt's!!! and a 850 watt power supply i got all of that for 650 bucks...the grafx card is about 350... so, if i were to buy a intel/nvidia system with the same performance out put... what would it cost? also...that MSI mobo can do SLI or Xfire! thanks |

The intel/nvidia build would out perform that build but because of that it could cost more also.
to match the performance of a 1090t I would have to go back a couple of platforms on intel. all the intel mobos offered at DS can do sli/cf, with acception of one. ' AT the end Kainhall we all know you are an AMD fan, so stop playing around and wasting your time and ours, no matter what we say you still gonna buy amd anyways, all you want to do is say amd can do it for less, lol not interested in that conversation nor do I agree. So I bow out. I will tell you this, get a 64bit os and get 6GB or 8GB of ram, and for psu if you want 850w go with corsair 850w "HX", that was "HX" and not tx, gs, or etc, either HX or AX. I think DST4ME pretty much covered it, you would of went with an AMD system even if there was an Intel system that was twice as powerful and half the price, so I really shouldn't bother, but... I was bored.
Here's what I think you got, based on the info you gave? ![]() This is just an educated guess though, based on the things you listed and the price total. There was two "MSI 990fx" motherboards, I picked the more expensive one because it seemed to fit the price total, but if you got the cheaper one let me know. Also wasn't sure what PSU you got, but that Corsair AX850 is a good/popular one and seemed to fit the price total. On that note, do you already have a HDD and OS...? I suppose the other components don't really matter, just the price of the CPU, motherboard, and CPU cooler are important. Anyway, I just reused the memory and PSU selections and changed the CPU, CPU cooler, and motherboard selections to Intel ones to get this: ![]() The Intel system comes out to $613.99 after the two mail in rebates and shipping. I haven't seen any direct comparisons between a 2500K and a 1090T, but I do know that even a stock 920/950 is significantly faster in 95% of tasks, games, and benchmarks (and I know you will argue that to your death, but those are just the numbers so deal with it), and I know that a 2500K is significantly faster than a 920/950, so please do expect a 2500K moderately overclocked to 4.5GHz or so with that nice Corsair A70 cooler to be unquestionably much faster than a 1090T (overclocked or not). So considering you could get an Intel system with a much faster CPU, a better motherboard, and a better CPU cooler for cheaper than that AMD system, I think you made a bad decision. |

i would debate that that is a better mobo....it might have more pci at 16x, but cna it do sli and xfire now.
even thow sli and xfire are outdated tech! also i have a 1 tera western digital cav blue 64 bit windows 7 home premium and i bought the hx850W also...lets assume i would do sli....is that intel mobo for the 2500k have 3 pciE lanes? and yes...i like amd. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Phenom+II+X6+1090T the value chart tells me what we all already know...amd might be the fastest, but its like the little engine that could...cheap, cost effective. i worked 1.5 months to get enough cash for this, and i needed a build NOW. RO2 drops before my next pay day and i preordered! only then did i look at the specs! and i honestly never looked at intel...i thought teh i5's were just core2quads with HT. or, something got re branded there. dont shoot me if im wrong! at least i know how "bad" i "f**ked" up....that's what i wanted to know! also... you said that i could have got a 2x build at 1/2x the cost...i see a 2x build at the same cost. also, when bulldozer drops and gives intel a run (wont be hte best, but will be better then a six core phenom 2) i will have the money and the mobo that can handle it...this is a am3 mobo, and if i had a AMD mobo laying around (i dont) i could have dropped it into there, and the price war would have not happened. anyway...bottem line. im happy dstime4me is pissed? and dragonseal is amazing at picking the same crap as what i did! what do you think of the red line memory however? |

DST4ME and Dragooseal,
Why even bother, all he wants to do is stir the pot. I just don't understand how Low performance for less money is a good thing. When AMD can provide High performance for less money then that might be interesting. Frank Edited by FrankW - 19 Aug 2011 at 11:58am |
