Which of the available DS chasis' have no LEDs connected to the side panel? I like to get in and out a lot (who doesn't?
I just want to avoid all that without having to get another FNW...

I believe the 950si and hailstorm and cool master elite don't have led fans.
the led lights themselves are installed by DS and you can simply choose to have none. |

DST4ME is correct.
The easiest chassis to open and close is the Corsair case, as it is tool-free and simply pops open by the push of a button.

Well, that settles it then... I'm definitely getting a Digital Storm!!!
I've had my eye on them for years and while I've had good vendor experiences elsewhere, times have changed. AW lives up to Dell's F rating on the BBB site and Voodoo is but a laughingstock of their old self... FNW is still a champ but they'll stick by an unehtical vednor and continue to send out crackly sound cards so they're out for me. Buh bye Kelt!
Thanks for the info guys as that LED crap on the door was a going to be a deal breaker for me (Yeah, I'm a dumbass). Guess I'll drop another penny in my pig and count the days until I can game like its 2010!!! BAM!!!

I've been going back and forth checking out those cases and the Cooler Master Elite looks sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet. I don't know how I missed it before...
So that will be my case. I don't need anything too fancy as this old Talon that I'm staring at has been just fine over the years and its just black aluminum!
(more annoying newbie questions) I just gotta ask : ATI or Nvidia? I've been with the latter since my 3DFX Banshee card died on me... Over the years Nvidia has been good to me through my 5950 and 7600s in SLi >>> I even did some fanboying for them when the Canadians were on top!
BUT!!! This screen flickering crap is annoying... Folks lovingly call it "texture twinkling" and it IS only here and there, once in a while, and I have gotten used to it. But why should I deal with it in a new rig?
If I went wit a top of the line, non- Crossfire, ATI card, would that be a mistake? Should I go with the badass GTX 295 and cuda and all that? Money is no object. Asthetics are!!!
Also, I'm a Total War nut and I've heard that ATI cards don't do well with Creative Assembly games...

It depends really. I'll never game higher than 1900 by 1600 on my CRT but in truth I never go above 1024 X when I run Total War. (the icons get too small)
I've been reading up on the CM elite 310 and I love it!!! Its cheap and it has a shiny look about it

actually the Elite does not have great airflow, it only comes with one fan and that is the exhaust, also its a mid tower so it does not have a lot of room for things to breath either. I think it has the worst airflow out of all the cases here, so don't expect great temps with it.
for 1900 x 1200 2 x 275 or 1 x 5870 is best. if you want dx11 support, only the 5870 offers that now, nvidia will have their cards out in jan. Edited by DST4ME - 13 Nov 2009 at 5:22pm |

Thanks, dude. I'm now looking at the HailStorm which appears to be a much larger case and like you said, does not have have the side panel fans (unless I add the six Zalmans but I could tell them to leave them off the side panel, right?)
Somehow, in all my internet searching and configuring I missed that vital tidbit about DX11 and ATI. Even if I don't spend my thirty benjis until Februrary, I still don't want a new card and all its attendant headaches. I want smooth sailing!!!
Decisions Decisions...

the corsair is ok, if you want great airflow, go for the haf, and just as DS to change the front 230mm led red fan, with a 230mm none led fan, like the top fan and the side fan, those 2 are none led fans.

Thats a good idea about the haf! I just want a good Air-cooled chasis that can handle HEAVY use!!!
I read up about DX11 and was stunned that Nvidia was behind the eight ball... Whos on top these days? On paper its Nvidia as there are only two noteworthy DX11 games coming out next year... But ATI is technically ahead (nope no pun there).
I think that I'll trick out an AMD-ATI rig! I'm just glad to be out of the "who am I going to buy from" stage of getting a new rig.

with this system you can switch over to ati/nvidia anytime you like.
right now ati is king, the same as last year, from oct to dec ati was on top, then from jan to oct nvidia was on top, IMO this year will be a repeat of last year. |

Thanks DST4ME. I appreciate your help and when I finally come up with a rig I am going to hunt you down and get more of your opinions. Its nice that this board has reps and enthusiasts who are willing to lend a hand without being patronizing.
