I'm new here, I just started looking around for a new PC that I can actually use to game/be able to work on my projects at home and not in the CAD lab. I got a new laptop under the pretext that it would be able to run SOLIDWORKS... that didn't work out so well. It >can< run it but it's very slow.
If I ordered something from Digital Storm, how long would it take for it to get to me? I'm constantly having to wake up early to go to the lab and get my homework done, and I'd rather be doing it at home. What would be the recommended computer to customize and order for someone who loves gaming? |

From what I understand SOLIDWORKS works best with a 6700k oced rather then mulit core, apparently only place the multi core helps is rendering a bit but every other task in SW a 6700k comes on top.
Based on that info, I would go with 6700k and probably a 1080 gtx depending. What is the native resolution of the monitor you gonna be gaming at? Do you play games like farcry, fallout, gta? Edited by DST4ME - 01 Sep 2016 at 1:06am |

Thank you what is your budget for this pc? I can tell you for 4k you are looking at single titan or sli 1080 and that puts us in the $4k range.

Click Image To Go To Configuration Page Bit of info: 1. Do not install Mcafee , instead get a lighter better anti virus like ESET (number 3 on the list) Or any other good light AV. 2. With extra fans request that DS changes all case fans and connects all your fans to the mobo so you can control them via free software. This way we can control the fans without needing anything else (aka fan controller and etc). 3. The warranty here is 3 year labor and 1 year parts so if you want higher part warranty be sure to raise the warranty level to the desired level. |

We can change that config to a single titan but you will want to put that under LC to get the best performance out of it since it has to be on a high oc.
To do that will bring our price to the $4300 range. |

You wouldn't mind telling me the reasoning behind the selections that you made, would you? I'm so clueless when it comes to different parts for the PC other than the processor and graphics.

32GB of ram for solidworks and etc.
sli 1080 so you get 60fps and higher at 4k m.2 950 pro ssd for best read/write/load speeds noctua for good oc stage 1 oc so you get a good oc with a good vcore velox case for best airflow upgraded fans to replace/add fans on the velox so that it has all its fans and we can control all of them 1000w psu to run sli 1080 and 6700k oced with good headroom |

Is it bad that I was leaning more towards the Apollo?

You can change the case to apollo it you like but that is a $100 difference, don't mistake the cases with the model numbers they use.
The config was made in the apollo section however no matter what model/section you are in, once you pick the case the name of the config changes to the case, aka a velox config with apollo case changes name to apollo and apollo config with velox case will change its name to velox. I changed the case to velox because it has better airflow. Edited by DST4ME - 02 Sep 2016 at 3:53pm |

I see, I see. I might make a few changes to that one then, keep what you have included on there but add a few extras. What about financing it? Can I put half of the money down when I can get the PC and then pay off the rest over time?

Contact Alex for that info
[email protected] My config already has the extras, if you change anything else you will not see any performance gain from it. But you get what you like let me have a look at it to make sure there is no conflict Edited by DST4ME - 04 Sep 2016 at 11:30am |

Plus, with level 2 overclocking and the average 6700k hitting 4.7Ghz... you can't get any better for gaming and still extremely good for production/work. The ASUS z170 Gaming is a great motherboard in the sense that it supports many features that you probably won't ever notice or use, but it blends well with your CPU given it's a k edition cpu, plus it has plenty of pci slots for addon's, m.2 slot, etc.. etc.. I gave you 32GB of ram because of your work load you describe. The reason I chose 2666mhz is because benchmarks have proven that higher frequency memory doesn't actually = better fps in games. You really only notice a difference in speeds when you're doing Ram disk. But with m.2... who needs Ramdisks. 850w because the GTX 10 series is extremely power efficient. I gave you an m.2 256gb ssd from samsung. I use this very m.2 myself. It's an m.2.. end of story (fast as hell). A 480GB DS certified Sata 3 SSD to house all of your games. and a 2TB WD Black to house all your media, documents, etc... mass storage. 2x GTX 1080's in SLI. While a single GTX titan X(P) will give you around 60fps in most games at 4k, it still often dips down in the 50's and lower depending on the game. 2x GTX titan x(p) would destroy 4k for you... but that's $2,400 in GPU's a lot. 2x GTX 1080's in sli will give you about 20-30% average increase in performance over a titan. It's $1,000 cheaper than 2 titans, but gives you enough power to comfortably game on high settings in 4k. I thought in the Corsair H100i GTX because of the level 2 OC we put on your CPU. It will keep things nice and cool and it's a maintenance free water cooling loop. I think it's more aesthetically pleasing than any air cooler, especially for this case. As for the case. I actually love this case. It's big, but not too big. Very roomy, easy to upgrade and add stuff in the future while offering good space for cable management. It comes standard with Corsair AF140 fans in it giving you amazing air flow while remaining very quiet, and with the H100i and it's SP120 fans that come with it by default from the manufacture... you'll have great air flow paths, with nice static pressure... all while keeping a very quiet system. This whole build falls under your max budget price by $100, and honestly... it's a beast ass system. Edited by Meller - 04 Sep 2016 at 2:47pm |

We're working on adding a new payment provider called Affirm, which will allow you to do this via financing. We're adding them in the next two weeks. |

I like my build better for better room and airflow and less chance of things going wrong and more headroom, but his build is a good build also not my cup of tea. We pretty much have the same config the difference is pretty much in the case, I didn't add any other drives.

With any build I've been doing so far, I've been exceeding my $4,000 cap by about $1,100, so I might as well raise that up to $5,000.
Here's what I have so far: https://www.digitalstorm.com/configurator.asp?id=1239328 |

Sorry about that, I just now figured out how to do that. Here's what I configured https://www.digitalstorm.com/configurator.asp?id=1484959 I need it to be with the monitor as I don't have any spares at home and I'd rather use a 4k. |

If you want to go on the old tech of x99 we can just so you know all the benches show solidworks to be better on 6700k and gaming again 6700k.
Having said that your build needs to be changed, the 1080 gtx are already oced, so no point of choosing oc on gpus, if you gonna go 5k on a build with sli I suggest much better cooling and a better case. Ticket Number: 1484970 have a look around and make sure you know what kind of a monitor you want (ips/144hz/etc) and then buy the monitor and buy elsewhere as you will get better price. |
