Hey everyone, I just recieved my DS rig yesterday. I read at some post here about someone asking what software to install and what testing should be done upon the first week of receiving the rig? If someone could post the link to that thread or offer some suggestions here. All in all the rig is running awesome and is very quiet despite the GTX 480's in SLI and the HAF-X fans and the D14. I'll post some pics and such this weekend after work.
Again if yall could offer up some suggestions so I can test out the system and its power, stability, and beef up system security and maintenance. Thanks in advance...
on a side note while I wait I will test out the Nvidia 3D kit with the Acer GD235hz

windows security is pretty good, if youre into some questionable sites you can use avg (active) or spybot (active or passive)
general cleaning and upkeep: ccleaner
check out black viper for disabling unneeded windows features / services / processes, be careful doing this, if you dont understand it, dont do it
testing:
intel burn test
prime 95
3dvantage
temps
realtemps
coretemps
post all of your findings if youre not sure what to look for, idle/load temps after intel burn test, then after an hour of prime 95
i would not advise letting anything go over 82c, again if you dont know what to look for
im not sure about real temps support for GPU temps but if it does not have that support use MSI afterburner
if youre looking to overclock it more just post that seperately Edited by !ender_ - 08 Jul 2010 at 9:29pm |

Dont alot of those programs have limited features unless you purchase? I tried some 3dmark06 one and it doesnt let me barely do anything lol
is the 3Dvfantage the one I see in pics on here alot?

yes, the only limited one out of the ones i listed is vantage, but the idea is to run it and test for crashes / temps,
every other prog i listed is freeware

@!ender_ When you say don't let anything get over 82C you are referring to the CPU cores right? Cause the GTX 480's in SLI reach 80C+ under 100% load with 3D Mark vantage @ maximum settings.

yes im only talking about the cores
the 480s are supposed to be safe up to 100c, geez
but, when i run tests like vantage or kombuster, i use MSIafterburner (also free) to turn the fan up. stock fan range on the fermis is something rediculous like 40-65% usage unless you modify it
dont save your MSI settings, just use them when you actually run the tests, i can max load my 470 and have it stay at 68-72 lol
im sure the 480 isnt much different

Very cool note about MSI! I was a little skeptical about touching the settings (I unplug the keyboard and mouse just incase my cat hopped on the desktop!) lol anyways im back at work atm, 3rd shift fun! When I get home at 0700hrs i'll crank up those fermi fans and run the test again and watch the temps.
btw, RealTemp does record gpu temps but only 1 gpu.

yea but the 1 it shows is the highest of the 2 cards, and they should really be the same most of the time anyway, so its not a great way to watch but still effective, MSI will monitor your temps over time too, and it will already be open for your fan speed
