Intel's Gulftown 6 cores comes in Q2 2010

130W TDP

Intel's second 32nm high end CPU with 6 cores and 12 thread support based on Westmere 32nm technology is set to launch in a year from today. Intel plans to introduce its high end CPU codenamed Gulftown CPU in Q2 2010.

The company has said to a special few that the new CPU should fit the 130W TDP envelope and that it will work on existing LGA1366 infrastructure. You won't need a new chipset, as it will work with X58.

The memory supported is DDR3, and officially Intel will only support the miserable 1066MHz memory and not even 1333MHz memory will be supported but we are quite sure that faster memory will work.

So now you can bet that soon to launch Core i7 975 will be the fastest CPU this Xmas, and a 3.33GHz Bloomfield 45nm quad-core will be the fastest you can buy.

nice so it will fit our x58 lg1366 mobos for the current i7 this is great news for all the i7 owners

"Intel is narrowing down the launch date of its upcoming Larrabee many-core cGPU.  The company confirmed that it is now on track for a H1 2010 introduction."

"Intel is very careful providing any information about its x86-based Larrabee.  What we know, however, is that the device will be based on second-generation Pentium processor technology with the P54C core."

"Larrabee is expected to come in multiple flavors with at least 8 cores at the low-end have at least 32 cores on the high-end.  At a clock speed of 2 GHz, the 32-core version could be topping a theoretical maximum performance of 2 TFlops."   Confused

I have to see larrabee, its a whole new architecture so I'm not sure how it will perform and what tasks it will be great at.

if you got cores you don't use, then put them to good use for good cause and fold using a SMP client, help find cure for cancer and other diseases.

I've got to admit that I'm still satisfied with just two cores running at 3.6 GHz. I hope that by a year from now there is software available (games in other words) that makes me covet a CPU with more cores.

Here's one for you (if you haven't already seen it...)  "Fujitsu this week laid a humdinger on Intel by unveiling the world's fastest CPU.  The new chip is thought to be about 2.5 times faster than anything Intel has in its lineup, while also consuming two-thirds less power.  You can put any grandiose ideas of picking one up and setting new benchmarking records to rest, as the "Venus" chip, or otherwise known as the SPARC64 VIIIfx, is desinged for supercomputers. As such, Fujitsu claims the new CPU can process a mind boggling 128 billion computations per second, making Fujitsu the first Japanese firm in a decade to wear the raw CPU performance crown.  Built on a 45nm manufacturing process, Venus comes with eight cores and an integrated memory controller spread across two square centimeters.  Fujitsu says it will take several years to come up with practical applications for the new chip, but that it could see use in pharmaceutical research, astronomy, weather prediction, scientific researching, and Folding@Home while running Crysis (we may have added the last two on our own)."  Smile  Ermm
