Happened twice in 5 months on my Sager laptop. Anyone shed some light on this issue? When it happened the first time I thought it was just bad luck. Twice in 5 months seems like a pattern.
Googled the issue and it seems like this has happened to a few others as well. What happens is supposedly after a power failure the drive becomes unusable and only shows 8MB. This is what happened to me both times. Computer is not in sleep mode either- I shut it down every time after use. Once in June and now today. Many are blaming this on firmware. Full disclosure this was not a laptop I bought from DS, but it is made by Sager which I believe supplies DS laptops. 1st time that happened Sager replaced for me. Now I'm out of Sager's warranty window but still under Intel's warranty window, so gonna find out how good Intel customer support is. |

You'll need the Intel box to do an RMA.

You should have updated the firmware on it, the latest fixed that issue.
Call intel: 916-377-7000 option number 6 or try their support site: http://www.intel.com/support/feedback.htm?group=ssd |

Would you recommend doing the firmware upgrade to my desktops as well? I have the Intel 320 SSD in both my laptop and desktops.

There are a few people that are having problems with Intel 320 SSD failures after applying the firmware update as well.

Was able to fix it by downloading the Intel SSD Toolbox and using secure erase followed by firmware update. This restored the 8MB back to the correct 160GB drive, and upgraded to the latest firmware which supposedly fixed the issue. Was able to upgrade the firmware on my desktop as well, did not have issue with data loss or anything. Learned something new woohoo!

The Intel SSD Toolbox is very easy to use and designed very well. I'm a little concerned that a few people have applied the firmware update and still have the same issues, but I'll wait and see if anything happens to my drives.
The other thing I'm a little disappointed with Intel is that you'd think with something like this, they would go all out to inform everyone and get the message out to everyone who bought their SSD to update the new firmware. But Intel was not proactive in alerting their customer base and as a result most people who bought this would be unaware unless it happened to themselves and they googled the issue. Fortunately I backed up my drive but if someone didn't back up their drive they would be really screwed. |

With ssds its pretty much up to us to check for firmware updates and decide if we want to do it or not. the toolbox I believe will check for updates or let you do it from it.
