Are these the G3's? I thought Intel was going to call it postville and it was to be based off 25nm tech.
(Source: Fudzilla) Intel 510 codenamed Emcrest
Intel is getting ready to launch two new 34nm 2.5 SSD drives based on its latest 34nm process.
Codename Emcrest will convert to Intel 510 brand that will guarantee up to 450MB read and 300MB/s write speeds. Let’s not forget that these drives are SATA III 6Gb/s compatible. The specification promises up to 20K IOPs at 4KB read and 4K IOPs at 4KB write. Intel plans to launch these drives in February and the bigger of two is Intel 510 250GB, which is going to sell for $579 at launch. The smaller one is Intel 510 120GB 34nm drive that will debut for $279 in February. The previous performance king, the X25-E with its 64GB storage and 250MB read and 170MB write, still sells for around €600. If you are after performance and you can afford to buy an SSD drive that costs more than an average Joe's TV, you might want to mark February in your calendar. News to me, I never heard of Emcrest. Only Postville, Lyndonville, and Soda Creek.
This is why I don't read Fudzilla.. |

nice chart finally ssds are getting into more acceptable volumes. are they internal raid? like the previous generations to get over 250 gb?
i got a nub question.... when you put any ssd in raid format then it doesn't allow trim.... how about the 40 gb version? forget about a tv at that price... i can easily do that up in a monitor or i can buy 10 of those to equal my pioneer elite kuro edition 50 in plasma tv Edited by Raif - 25 Jan 2011 at 6:46pm |

What about the 40GB Intel? Still no TRIM in RAID. |

that answers my question, just as i thought the chart confused me for a min ty
yeah i know, i am super spoiled by it! i wont go to anything but a imax or it isn't worth going to the theaters, my tv blows everything away. too bad it is out of production now at days. i heard they stopped production b/c the screen costs too much to make but i am not sure of the validity of that |

Raif pio sold their plasma technology to panasonic, so look at their plasma from now on if you want the pio panel you are used to.
I love mine kuro's also, but the next move is gonna have to be a 3D plasma or led (depending) that needs no 3D glasses, lol. |

yeah 3d is being forced on us, but the tv's with 3d tech have better gpus then reg 2d's. this leads to better 2d reproduction as well as the ability for 3d. so in the next few years we are gonna get mind blowing tv's
good to know, next time i shop for a new tv (prob when 2160p becomes mainstream and we are using holographic media) panasonic is the way to go. i just love the panel the colors are really realistic, everything is really clear and sharp, and all the money i saved from not going to the movies and just watching at home will pay for the tv next year lol. but anywway back to the intel ssd g3 i love the new sizes. i don't know if you remember but i was looking at a colossus from ocz that was 500gb. problem is that it was internal raid 0. will these new drives be internal raid again like past gens or will they be single drives? |

Just single drives, with TRIM and all. Also for anyone that was curious, here is some more info on the Intel SSD 310 series, straight from Intel. They are super compact mSATA drives, for use in small things like netbooks and tablets. That makes them the (at least previously named) Soda Creek from their older SSD roadmap. Still no idea what the 510 series is all about, except that they are oddly enough still using 34nm NAND unlike the upcoming G3s which are slated to be 25nm NAND. Maybe they're a "in the mean time" refresh while they get their 25nm NAND production sorted out? |

So will the intel 510/elm crest series be compatible with sata3 interface? If so what kind of speeds will you see with it? It would appear that the 510 series will be faster then the 320 series despite the 510 being 32nm vs 25nm. Anyone else confused?

On a SATA 3Gb/s port it would cap around 280MB/s reads and writes for sequential speeds, small file speeds won't be affected (no where near the 280MB/s cap). Note sequential speeds aren't quite as important as good small file speeds, they are utilized less often.
I don't recall if 25nm NAND is supposed to be inherently much faster, or if it was just the big price drop that was the big difference. Either way, SSD speeds are still largely dependent on 1) The SSD controller and 2) How many NAND chips and channels the SSD has. For example the reason the 40GB Intel SSDs can only do 170GB/s reads and 40GB/s write speeds is because they only have 5 channels (5x 8GB NAND chips), where as the 80GB Intel SSD has 10 channels and can do 280GB/s reads and 80GB/s writes. If they were to say, make a 20 channel SSD, and maybe beef up the controller some, it could push much much higher speeds. They could of done this any time in the last year or two easy, but I think they were waiting on the release of their own SATA 6GB/s ports first. |

Thanks for taking the time to answer all those questions. Would it be pointless raiding 2 of the 320's together then since the speed is capped at 280?

each SSD would be capped, but together it would limited to the RAID controllers cap. some cap at 650Mbs some cap at 2500

Well justin what say you? If you look at the random write and read is slower then the g2 series I think.

intel 510 arnt g3's
they are crappier than x-25ms , they bench slower than g2 x-25m on 3gb sata
i dont even know why intel made the 510's, feels like they just threw it out there to grab the buyers for a intel branded 6gb sata drive.
i believe the g3 intels controllers arnt confirmed yet ? if it's marvel i'm glad i paid for vertex 3 Edited by Kyu - 13 Mar 2011 at 7:00am |

Tomshardware has a review out on the g3's, it almost seems like the g2 is a better buy here for people still using sata 3.
