"I can see gamers demanding +6GB of address space within the next couple of years"...

4gigs of RAM and SLI GTXs gets pretty close to that now..

I'd have to agree with everything this guy says. Of course, he's saying two things:
  1. The future of desktop computing will be 64-bit.
  2. For the vast majority of people, there is no compelling reason to switch from 32-bit to 64-bit today.

Strangely, you can make the exact same statements about Vista, although Vista's future isn't quite as certain. Unless I can make it all the way to Windows 7, I will switch to Vista at some point, and it will be the 64-bit version, but there is no compelling reason to do so today. Perhaps Crysis will be the first drop in the flood of compelling reasons; perhaps not.

My wife's a developer, so when I told her I was ready to replace my old computer with the dying hard drive rather than upgrade it, the first thing she said was "Are you going to get a 64-bit OS?  Then you can go above 4gb of RAM".

Ultimately it came down to drivers and whatnot, so I went with the 32 bit...though she offered to write any drivers I might need!

Just set up a dual boot..  Tongue  I've got a triple boot, which makes XP vs. Vista performance a non-issue.
