2 5870's will do you fine, 3 if you really want the max. |

I have been waiting on 2 5970's for almost a month. 3-5870's are looking mighty tempting.
But,will 3 5870's fit in a Rampage II Extreme MB with a dedicated sound card as well. Doesnt the Sound Card use just a 1X PCI-E slot ? Sorry to sound so newbish...

There will ALWAYS be room for upgrades.

I am maybe regretting getting the 2x5870 instead of 2x5970... GTA IV apparently only sees the first card's memory despite the xfire. If other games do this too, I really messed up :( . It looks like we may have to send our system in, and if so, I will be getting price quotes for upgrading the GPUs unless I can find a workaround. I thought 2x5870 = 2Gb of video memory... Does not appear that way! :/

you would have the same problem with 5970, its in internal cf, so if there is a problem with crossfire the 5970 will suffer from it also, no game combines the memory together in cf/sli.
if you want 2GB of ram you will need to wait for the 2GB version of 5870 or 4GB version of 5970(2GB per core) |

I wonder when the 2gb 5870 will come out? I guess that's the most logical upgrade path for me. I can just upgrade one of them... :)

like I said in an earlier post, there are a few games out there, that can max out the 1Gb mem cards, that is why the first fermi's will be 1.5Gb. Most games 1Gb is fine, and with the 5870's, a few driver updates should help a bit, but you might have to turn some eye candy down a tad.

The game does run smooth, but my hubby and I hoped to max it out; it's his favorite game at the moment (lots of fun as a sandbox game with trainer mods on!!). Saw a screenshot online, apparently you can max it out with around 1.5gb of memory. I think the game is just coded poorly anyway. I hate seeing my husband dissapointed with his new toy tho <3. The game does look good, just wanted viewing distance and vehicle density higher.
We were able to max out Portal and Dirt 2. Haven't tried Crysis yet :). |

you won't be able to max out crysis with high aa, but if you drop aa then both games should do great.

Yeah, I was mentally prepared for Crysis to not have AA at max based on feedback I've gotten here. GTA was a shock tho! :P

You know you can override all of that stuff in GTA4 so you can max the graphics regardless of your video memory. I don't remember how to do it as it's been a LONG time since I've played it but you can google it.

there should be 2GB versions of 5870/5970 coming out from what I hear, but those are only for people who play games like gtv4, most games right now have no use for that much vram.

would that be coming out at the same time as 5890 being announced ?
cause I'm confused now, I figured for marketing they'll be releasing 2gb 5870 first then once the sales drop alittle then release the 5890.
but I'm hearing less about the 2gb and more about 5890.
or will the 5890 just be a 2gb
