was exploring some more about power supplies and I came to notice that there are tiers higher than gold rated. Like platinum and Titanium. Then Cretae mentioned the custom water cooling from DS could possibly be of mid range quality. My question is why doesn't DS offer these higher end components? I mean the main reason I chose DS over the other websites is because they stated they used the highest quality parts and I don't mind the premium if I get a high quality components and overall build but as I'm doing more and more research and getting info from people it seems the parts being used are kind of in the middle not in the high end.
Am I just getting the wrong idea here? Not trying to throw anyone under the bus here just some things I am genuinely curious about since this will be my 1st and very expensive purchase from DS. |

You are correct in analyzing and researching the hardware going into your system. There has been a reduction of options which date before Covid. We are users and have no connection to DS so cannot even begin to imagine what goes into their decision process. We try to help with what is available. |

Parts available is also a factor pre+post configuration. I spec'd a system with a 1200watt gold PSU and they ended up giving me one with a platinum rating, they get parts from different vendors and my guess is when you spec for different parts they use the part you spec as a baseline on the quality

Oh that's really good to know that DS does that. Hopefully it's like that in my case. As I would've loved to have had the option to add the platinum, after doing my research on PSU and discovering the horror stories related to failed PSUs. Thanks for the info! Greatly appreciated. |

Two things. DS has to rely on supply, and that cuts into the variety enormously in these times. The supply chain is terribly broken, and necessary components like CPUs and GPUs have caused 3 month delays. I had to wait 4 months for La-z-boy recliner!
GPUs alone are so overpriced, the cost of a system must me moderated to compensate, or most of us couldn't buy. A lot of other parts are in short supply as well, and overpriced. The parts here are reliable as all get out. I've been here about every day for 5 YEARS, and rarely heard of a DS branded PSU or AIO cooler or RAM failure within a reasonable (say 4 to 5 years) lifespan. The old adage that if a computer part will fail, it will do so within a year under warranty, holds true here. Lots of us, myself included, bought DS parts and got 8-10 years from them. Year 7, I replaced a fan. Cost me $12.

I was reading some articles and they were stating some laptops and other electronics have actually gone up in price as of the 18th of this month. Yikes!

There are two main reasons for the increases... and the fact that neither are being mitigated right now its only going to get worse.... I invite you to google the Global Shipping Trade crisis and the Microchip Shortage. Both of which are completely out of Digital Storm's control.
The delays are so pronounced that Ford has announced they are halting production of their best-sellers (F-150 and Bronco) and have pulled between 200,000 - 400,000 cars from production. Edited by Snaike - 22 Jun 2021 at 3:11pm |

Yes I was well aware of the wafer shortages before I placed my order but not the shipping stuff. However one would think they would just have longer wait times for those better parts since it was taking longer to acquire them. Hence my original post. As a consumer you wanna get a premium product from a premium seller.
From what I read that was mainly the automotive industries falt there as they stopped the orders of chips in preparation for a lack of orders due to the pandemic causing a big buffer between receiving their normal amount of chip orders.
