Or do you also window shop; creating a system and customizing it to fit your budget and needs?   Since my pc had its meltdown Ive been on here creating various systems and whatnot.  Hopefully in the next month or two I can get my system.

I've been window shopping for a year now and configuring so many computers from different sites just to see what kind of set up I'll be able to get for what price...and then the parts change and the prices change. You're not alone with the window shopping. I did finally settle on a pc from Cyber Power and it had to go back for a refund. I'm currently waiting for my new DS system. If you're looking to buy...pull the trigger now and stop teasing your self...you'll go nuts...if you're not sure how to spec it you're in the right spot to learn how.

Well Im in the realm of about 1400 bucks right now.  If I wait for 2-3 months maybe a little less I can spend $1700-$1900.  Something resembling this  72284 should suffice, but again Im still in the window shopping status. What do you think of the build?

Window shopping -dreaming--call it what we will I'm having a blast...and believe it or not DS is by far the most informative...Cyberpower just answered my Saturday e-mail,and the did not address my two questions...DS responded the same day and sent me a build to study or modify...pretty kool...I'm gonna buy soon...but I'm learning just what I want and it is getting clearer ever day ....Doug .... Ps. I'm looking at what you guys say about having to wait after you order...I may pick the quickest shipping....

Shopped, configured, and daydreamed for about 6 months.  That's part of the fun man..  Getting drunk and configuring a system only to wake up with a headache and wondering how you can pull 4 grand out of your ass.

I can't wait to get my system! I'm not going to have any money to buy games, so I'm just going to sit there, browsing the forums, while staring at my beautiful case. :O

The old games play even better on the new hardware.  At least that is what I keep telling myself.  You can now turn on all the goodies from your old games and get GREAT FPS.

If your current system is old enough, like mine, you've probably got months worth of game play already sitting on the shelf. "Oblivion" and "STALKER" alone will keep me busy for a couple of months after I play "Bioshock" at least once. I'll even go back and do "Farcry" and "FEAR" for the fifth times, but max'd out this time.

My system is way too old. :P
Not so much that it's old, I just bought it as a budget system, about 3 years ago, for $150, and then added to it.

I have Oblivion and BioShock on the 360, so I'm not sure if I'll play either there. Though, I am thinking I will pick up Oblvion, as I prefer the keyboard and mouse setup, and I'm sure I can get it a bit cheaper, with the expansions and such. Not to mention that my saved file of Oblivion is buggy, couldn't complete the Thieves' Guild quests. :(

For a low graphic intensive experience, I would say $1,500, then if you want to enjoy some eye candy, go up to $2,000-$2,500

Ah, I was a little confused. My setup cost around $1800. I just ordered this week. The $150 I said above is the computer I'm using at the moment. Running at a 1.5Ghz processor, 1GB or RAM, and a 64MB video card. :P

I can't even play AoE III on it (using Windows 2000), so it was definitely time for the upgrade.

I was "window" shopping for nearly 4 months before I went with DS.  Back at the end of June, I was ready to spend $3,500 during the July 4th Holiday.

I kept putting it off as I did more research.  I refined my choices, plus with price breaks like the Intel Q6600 Quad 2.4 getting the price lowered by 2/3rd got me down to the $2000 mark.

That's when it starts getting dangerous Wink

You start thinking...wow, if I wait another month, it will be down to $1,800.  2 months and it's $1650!.  At some point, there will be a cut off and the older hardware will stop going down in price and the cost savings outweighed by going with older tech.

I have to admit, though, that I had a brief hesitation as I read about the next generation of Nvidia cards - wondering how much and when the price would drop on the 8800 GTX in response.

Nah, I waited from June to Sep, so I was ready to order.
