I am sorry I have posted so many questions but I am enthusiastic about this site.
Is it possible to send a computer in to get OC'ed? Like a person sending in their system to get its processor, graphics, memory, etc. overclocked.
Also, Is it possible to buy a single part (i.e. graphics card) from DSO that they have overclocked for you?

I am not sure if DSO offers such a service, but it is pretty easy to learn how to overclock yourself if your PC is capable (most OEM consumer grade machines like Dell, HP etc. cannot be overclocked). Assuming your PC is capable of being overclocked, they could probably walk you through it over the phone. It isn't possible to get a single part overclocked, except maybe the graphics card. The CPU and memory need to be tested with the entire system in order to make sure it is stable.
As for graphics cards, several manufacturers sell cards already overclocked, such as EVGA, XFX, ASUS and BFG. It would probably make more sense to buy an overclocked version of the card you want from Newegg.com rather than to try to have DSO do it for you (and alot cheaper).
Of course the best option is to just get a new DSO Benchmark Crusher

Hi guys, thx for the replies. I have various computers I was thinking of overclocking, including 1 custom-build and 1 HP. I assume the latter will not overclock.
Is it generally possible to replace parts (ie GPU, CPU) in Dells and HPs? Or are they pretty much set to only work with a very specific set-up? |

the HP has a Q9300 and I was thinking of grabbing a higher-end CPU in the future, perhaps with the arrival of the core i7s and the (assumed) price drop in Quad Extremes

do you think I would be able to put a QX in that HP?

OK well you can upgrade that CPU to a q9650 and you should be loving that. you can put a qx if you like but q9650 will do the same job and save you lots of heat and money
I don't believe your HP mombo will allow you to OC anything, but your future GPU is independent and can be OCed. what gpu do you have in there now? Edited by DST4ME - 11 Nov 2008 at 8:33pm |

Geforce 9800 GT (which, much to my disappointment, I read is just a re-packaged 8800 GT)

go here and install HWMonitor and leave it on for an hour while you use the pc, then you will get an idea of your max temp.
once you got that figured out, download and install rivatuner and oc your gpu with it if you like go here to learn how to use it |

Thanks a lot! BTW, how much better do you think a Q9650 is than a Q9300? 10%?

lots more, your q9300 is at 2.5GHz, the q9650 is at 3.0GHz, in apps and games you should notice improvements
You are very welcome Edited by DST4ME - 11 Nov 2008 at 9:42pm |

Yeah, i'll buy a new psu, cpu and gpu in a few months.. hopefully DSO has a q9650 by then, it only has a qx9650 and this mb (G33) can't handle it

I don't suppose it's possible to OC an HP if you replace the mb...?
It'd be nice if I could send this machine in for some new parts + OC'ing of cpu

Prebuilts such as HP lock their BIOS so there is no way of overclocking the computer unless you want to hack into the BIOS. Why bother anyways since the motherboards these prebuilders use are cheaper than the ones you find on newegg -.-
And out of curiosity DST, why do you always say mombo? MOtherBOard has one M =\ |
