I am in Iraq and the dell I have at home (yeah... I know) just took a dump. So I pretty much decided to get a gaming setup for the wife to use until I get home and fix the POS dell for her... I mean us... there are a few updates to this build that I was considering the main one was the PSU to the 750W instead of the 650W. I was wondering if I should get a chunkier cooling system or if what I got should be good. Any advice would be great, I am not a computer genius but I am not a guy who would say "im not a computer guy"... I am just looking for a good setup that will keep me up to par for the next few years or so. Thank you for your comments! DSO I have kicked myself for not looking for you sooner!

BTW I am not really trying to spend more than what it is here, $1640. I just want to know of any shortcomings this build might have. It appears to look like a solid build, but again I have never built a gaming machine. Thanks a Pantload!

Solid build for the money.
1. Change your ram to OCZ (1333mhz)
2. Change your case lights to red
3. If youre planning to use this PC for 2-4 years, i suggest upping your ram to 4 gigs + windows vista 64 bit (premium)
4. 4 year warranty will keep you covered thru the life of this PC Edited by Nomak - 22 Sep 2008 at 3:35pm |

that mobo doesn't support DDR3 1333 Ram.
I would upgrade to 4G of the DDR 800 though and vista 64.

OCZ you say? is that because of the processor? Why 64 bit? I like Green, other than personal oppinion why should I change? Red might frighten my kid!LOL. I heard that 32bit vista doesnt even recognize over 3 gigs of ram. when you say the life, you are saying this thing will only last 4 years? sheeeeit..

RGH, is this PC for heavy gaming with a monitor that has a higher resolution of 1680 x 1050?
OCZ cause corsair has been crapping out alot, 64bit so you use all your total ram (sticks and GPU), 32can use a total of 4 (sticks and GPU. he/I is saying go with 4 year warranty, the system should last you longer then that but up to 4 years anything happens you got nothing to worry about, if you go with the 4 year warranty. now before I advise you can you answer my question, and welcome aboard |

Since you are going with Dual 9800 GTX's in SLI you will be better off with the 750 Watt PSU and it's only $19 more.

15 bux more for 64bit is pretty good. I am realy trying to keep it under 1700. 2gb 1066mhz will keep me at 1684. which will keep the wife at bay. Is EAS any good? I am not familiar with it.

OCZ is being recommended b/c they have seen a higher fail rate on the Corsair RAM lately. Go 64 bit OS...as it sits with 2gb of RAM and the 1gb in GPU RAM with your current build your OS won't address any more should you choose to bump up to 4gb in the future. Well depending on what type of games you play and at what resolution and settings you like to play at you'll be looking to upgrade most likely in 4yrs (maybe not a whole system but parts of it at least). The 4 year warranty is more of a security blanket. Some people love not having to worry about a computers problems for 4 years while others are pretty well looking for something new after 3. Seems to me that you are like me and seem to run a computer until it doesn't run what you need it to anymore so the 4 year warranty is something to consider. Not sure why he's suggesting red but if you like green go green it's all a personal preference thing.

Well, you could always cut out the ram from DS and buy your own from newegg or something. |

im looking to play City of Heroes when I get back. Maxed of course. I have a 28 inch monitor, I would like to go dvi to HDMI for nice resolution. Someone told me SLI can be sketchy at times, one card could misread the other and the gates of hell will open... well not exactly but you get the idea. So the Cooling system should be good? Red is friggin sweet, Green is more soothing.

OK then your config is good, go with 64bit or you are wasting your money on lot of ram that won't be used. with your setup vista 64bit is a must
you need to raise your PSU I don't' think 650 will cut it. also am worried about your cooling, if your CPU was liquid cooled, then I would be more relaxed. Edited by DST4ME - 22 Sep 2008 at 4:31pm |

it will definitely be gamed on. I have a 28 inch Viewsonic and the resolution goes higher then mentioned. I also have a 42 inch plasma that I might get squirly with once and a while, if doable. I do plan on upgrading to the 750w PSU. and getting the OCZ 2gb 1066MHz. Thanks for the welcome, I feel right at home. looking forward to the schooling I should be getting on here.
