I was just hoping if anyone could tell me if this set up is overkill or a good to play bf3 and skyrim at really high settings? any advice would be appreciated!!

2560x1440 resolution sorry this is the monitor i have Dell UltraSharp U2711

for that res and games like bf3, we recommend going sli with option to go tri sli, the current p67/68 does not do tri sli correctly, your options are to either go with the old platform of x58, or wait for the new platform of x79 due out in oct/nov.

I see you have gone with the old platform, so I just want to make sure you know a few things:

1. did you know that the 2600k is more powerful in games then the 990x?

2. did you know the new platform will due even better then the 2600k and p67?

if yes and you still want to with the x58 (our recommendation is to wait for x79), then I will comment on your build.

you should wait for the new x79 platform yes.

your x58 does have overkill and in 2 months you will kick yourself for getting it cause the x79 will cost around the same but perform better.

LC is not needed however for the config you picked and the oc stage you have picked it would be needed but I would not recommend that oc and oc stage for that cpu.

that is old news and will not mean much.

Even for the most performance demanding users this isn't likely to be a huge issue
