Hi everyone,
Been browsing through the forums lately in anticipation of my machine and there's quite a community here isn't there... I'm a little confused about operating systems at the moment and would like to hear some feedback on the following I'm getting vista home premium 64 with my DS computer but a little hesitant to get up and running using that OS. My options are... Deal with it and potentially upgrade to win7 when it's out or install winxp pro 64. If I stick with vista home 64 will I be able to utilize all the cores in my machine for rendering? Does it limit HT? I've been using xp pro for years now and it's been working just fine and "if it' aint broke..." So long as I have a stable system that'll utilize all the procs in my machine in addition to networking with my mac it should be fine but I wanted to throw this out and see what sort of advice/feedback you might have because I just don't know what to expect. I bought this as my work machine to run photoshop, maya, modo and combustion and just looking to stay working with as little setback as possible. |

vista 64-bit is going to be fine for you, if the apps you use support 64-bit then they support vista, xp 64-bit has been known to have some issues.
just go with vista 64-bit and then upgrade to win7 if you like, I would say upgrade to that when sp1 for it comes out, but thats just me |

Yeah well I'm really excited so I'd prefer to just start going without waiting for a new full reinstall or anything. I think I'll give vista64 home premium a go and see what happens... That is, if that damn UPS truck would ever show up!!!! :)
Oh and thanks DST4ME! Edited by marshal - 04 Sep 2009 at 12:54pm |
