DHL driver just left. Woot. I am actually afraid to open the box!
Anyway, I am going to open it, make sure everything is seated correctly, and read the info that came with it. I will then try to configure this new router! If all goes well, I will post some photos later!
Wish me luck!

Ok, boys and girls.... this MONSTER is up and running. Its is the size of a VW! Wow is all that I can say. Everything started well, hooked up like a dream and is up on the net!
Now, I have to run to the store and get Norton 2008 because of course my 2006 version wont work with Vista!
I will get back on here later with the full story and try some photos after I get all the security stuff installed.
Zoooooooooooom!

I don't believe he'll have the full story when he comes back. I think we'll see multiple chapters in this story line. Patiently waiting for next submission... |

Took 6 days to get to South Florida with UPS, so probably at least 4.

Ok, Dash, what would you use? Serious, I have used it for years and its always done me right, along with Adaware.......
What do you suggest? Serious, I am an expert gamer, not software guy.

I've used Norton in the past, it's never been a problem program. I think what he's saying is that it's a resource hog, and it has been known to be a little prickish at times. Although, with your rig, I don't think you'll have to worry about the resource hog thing. ZA, Norton, Mcafee; They all have been known to be a bit problematic when it comes to protocol and access. I used ZA for years and just got tired of it interfering with the games all the time.
I use Avast Anti-virus. Good program, works and free. That, combined with my Linksys router and Windows Firewall, I have all the protection I need. Been using this set-up quite sometime and haven't had any issues. As Dash was eluding to, some of the bigger and more comprehensive security programs can tend to be overkill when it comes to how much they run interference for your systems software and what is actually necessary for a security program. If someone wants in your system it won't matter what you have standing in between their hack codes and your security program. They will access. |

I use AVG, its on the low end for resource useage (according to all the colorful fancy charts online) and I have no problems with it. Very easy to understand everything.

It could take several days to get that grin off DL's face.
As for Norton: Don't get me started about Norton.... I will install that disaster again sometime shortly after hell freezes.
I currently use AVG for antivirus.

I use ONEcare. Like the 3 pack deal and the fact its not in your face all the time. Backup is nice too.
Any one of the ones the others mentioned is good too. Norton is just a huge hog.
Note! if your OS is 64bit just make sure whichever ione you get has a 64bit edtion. Don't try and put the 32bit one on it.

i've used AVG and comodo together on my current comptuer with XP. I'm thinking of using it on my new DS rig once it gets here since so far no problems with them or viruses. AVG updates quite often.

I would recommend Avast or AVG. Both are free and very stable. Without being such a resource hog. However, with your system BigDog, you should be fine. You can probably set Norton to run on one core, leaving the rest of your CPU free for gaming and the like.
