and I'm getting it all set up! Can't wait to get some online gaming going!
But now I have a question. What's the best free internet security program? And how should I get it to my new DS rig? EDIT: Oh I just thought of something. All I bought was the router. Am I going to have to buy like an adapter or something? When I bought my DS rig, I think it said it came with a "High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network connections)", but I have no idea what that is. ![]() Edited by Nomad - 26 Dec 2007 at 3:59pm |

Everything you need should be included in the box with the router.
Why do you need internet security software?. Firefox and email services already offer near perfect spam filters and your router has a firewall built-in. |

Yeah, those 'built in' ones only help a little. I think he means an antivirus, a lot of them call their products 'internet security'. if you want a free antivirus then avg has a good one.

Well I just talked to the technician dude and he said that I'm going to need to buy a network adapter cuz the router that I bought is a wireless one and the network port is for wired adapters? So I guess I'm gonna run to OfficeMax again and buy a network adapter lol |

Yeah that's what I meant I had gotten a few free anti-virus programs recommended but I couldn't remember what they were called but AVG rings a bell so I'll go ahead and get that. Thanks! |

What wireless router do you have?
Most of the ones I have come accross at least have one or two network ports built into the back of them.

Well I have a D-Link WBR-2310 but even if it did have a network port built in, part of the problem is that hooking up a cable from the router to my DS rig would be a real pain in the ![]() |

From the diagram on the D-Link site, it looks like it has at least one wire port.
If your gona play FPS online games I would recummend hooking up the wire port to your PC network port. It will be much faster.

Really? Hmm... well I may have to consider that in the future. For now, the speed is fine for me (I think my lag is like 60-80 in TF2 for example) but if it really is faster, I may have to bear the annoyance and get a wired connection. |
