Topic: Just got Computer! Posted: 03 Jan 2012 at 2:37pm |
I just opened the side to my new computer and removed the foam packing. The side fan is not connected, just a black, red, and white wire hanging from the side fan. Inside the computer there is a white and red wire hanging down. Does anybody know if that is where the
wire is connected. thanks! You can plug that fan header connector to any fan header on the motherboard.

The side fan hooks directly to the mobo??? That's a problem waiting to happen. Just my opinion.

It should be able to... there may also be a connector sitting around one of the corners of the case which it can connect to.

Congrats on your purchase!
In regards to what Alex said, any fan header will do. In my case the cord was actually tucked inside the back panel, so I had to take that off to find it. |

Hi bbaisw.....when I said a problem waiting to happen I meant plugging directly into mobo. Not sure if that was what he meant. A permanent case fan is one thing but to unplug from mobo whenever one pops the side cover can hit the mobo with static, yank on the mobo plug if side cover falls, etc. The fan normally plugs into a periph cable from Ps or even a cable already plugged into mobo. If you're careful no problems, but things can go wrong. Just my opinion from years of service seeing things go belly-up.
Congrats on the new rig. Edited by bprat22 - 04 Jan 2012 at 9:50pm |

If its long enough or if he can remember you can just plug into mobo, but if he is forgetful then its a bad idea

For those not taking this discussion serious, consider this... Your sitting, comfortable and cozy, your face aglow from the warmth of your 23” monitor. Fingers, left, dancing over the keys, and right, working the mouse, the bad guys inching closer. A pop, a slight crackle draws you right, your HAFX sitting in a soft blue eerie glow. A whisp of smoke rises from below. “I love the smell of burnt component in the morning.” A shutter, a slight vibration. The leds glow brighter. Still brighter. Fan leds go out, and neon tubes explode. The case vibrates closer, the side panel buckling as the fan races to what must be 20,000 rpm. " My power supply is imploding!" escapes quivering lips.
Panic stricken, you push back. Like a plane's turbo-fan engine the side fan rips free, wires trailing, barely grazing your nose. In horror you watch as the picture of Alex hanging on the wall, so long watching over, is smashed, his forlorn eyes, tired from the endless questions, every day, even Holidays, flutters to the floor. A smirk, a smile, ever so slight escapes. His eyes brighten, just a bit, barely noticeable. His lips move, forming the words, slow, deliberate.. “Call DS tech support”. You look back. A small spot on the mobo smolders, a hole, the connector ripped free. Now guys...do ya still want to plug it directly into the mobo. This could be YOU. Edited by bprat22 - 05 Jan 2012 at 11:04am |

Actually though, the sight of a 200mm fan bursting out of the case at 20,000rpm would be pretty nifty as long as no one was hurt. I mean, if your rig is going to die, that's one helluva' way to go Edited by Tidgxor - 05 Jan 2012 at 1:22pm |
