I'll join the ranks of the clones and ask for help choosing a system.  Ouch

I'll likely be purchasing a system around Feb. of 2009.

I'll also likely have a budget of around $1400.

I will already have a Dell SP2208 WFP 22" LCD monitor.

I'll keep my keyboard and trackball.

I'll want the Razor Barracuda sound card, I'll likely get the 3D headphones they have for that card down the road.

What I want to use the computer for:  I play COD United Offensive Multiplayer and WoW a lot.  I dabble in Photoshop, just for fun, no heavy duty editing.  I like to watch DVD's on my PC  I will want to play some of the newer games that I can't even touch now, like Grand Theft Auto 4, the newest Call of Duty, etc at the 1680x1050 that my LCD monitor uses now.

I'd like to rerip my 400 CD at FLAC format so I'd probably need a fairly large second hard drive?

One thing I love about my current PC is that my Sony headphones are plugged in all the time, it doesn't cut off the speakers.  When I want to listen quietly, I put on my headphones and turn the speakers off, when I'm done I take the headphones off and simply turn the speakers back on, no having to plug and unplug my headphones.  Hopefully I'll be able to still do that with my new system.

I'm totally confused about which of the zillions of Video Card selections to choose for what I want.

My thought is that 4gb ram will be much better than 2gb, but for what I use the PC for is that true?

Also my current system has a horridly loud cooling fan, I'll really want some peace and quiet for the new one. :)

I'm hoping that to spend $1400 in 4 months, I could configure one now for $1600 or so and it will drop in price a couple hundred by then.  I hope. :)

I'm fully aware that for that price range I may not be able to do all the things I'm hoping for.

Anyway, I hope I asked the right questions properly and look forward to some replies.

Thanks in advance, Crodley

The DS GT is a pretty good all around cheap computer... http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsavedsd.asp?id=184736
See if you like the specs on that. Should run COD 4 and WoW pretty well. :D

Crodley that is a good time away, I would wait and see what things are available and what the prices are in Feb. I don't think what ever we have is gonna be the same price and everything in Feb.

But for now if you want an idea, the GT model mentioned is your best shot but I think you will see different systems available in Feb, so its best if you come back mid Jan and check things out
