Was looking at this rig and want some of you expert advise.  I really only will use this for games MMO  and FPS.
 
The two things in red are items I changed from the standard model I picked.  Will the memory upgrade help that much and is it worth it.
 
Also I picked the cooling upgrade because the line in blue recommended a cooling upgrade because of the overclocking.   Is the overclocking worth it or would I be better off leaving the cpu standard and running a regular standard cooling.
 
I would like to save as much as possible on this rig.  I bought a DS comp in Jan of 08 and it runs great but I just want something new.
 
One more thing are the diffrent versions of window 7 all the same when it comes to gaming?

What is your budget and res?

Though even if you had a budget id change the case to a better air flow one like the haf 922 if you on a budget, id change the ram to DS certified because the corsairs are overpriced for little performance gain, change the psu to corsair, thats one that you should have a brand name on. Your buying from DS, a custom built gaming computer, you should do the OC and if u want it to be mild just let DS know how much u want it oced, i suggest cooling upgrade for the OC, helps a lot

The overclocking is definitely worth it, increases the performance of your processor by a lot. with roughly 100$ of cooling, an overclocked 920 can run much faster than the 750$ more 975. All the 900 series quad cores are the same anyway.

I don't believe the increase in Ram speed will help much,1600Mhz is fine. I would consider getting more though, 3GB is not a lot of ram. You probably won't use more the 3GB too often, only during major multitasking or high memory usage programs like photoshop, but when you do, you'll want to have 6. 12 is just unnecessary.

Windows 7 Pro is the same as HP with xp mode, 7 ultimate is the same as pro with multilingual support. don't need either? get home premium. if you are getting 6 gigs of RAM, you will need the 64 bit by the way. 32 bit limits to 4 gigs.

Agreed with going 6g instead of 3g but hp,pro, and ultimate for windows 7 doesnt only have those three things to differentiate them from one another, theres a few other specs that are different but i think you should be good with home premium if your just doing gaming, the xp virtualization thing seems to be sorta wacko, i think you can do it on home premium too, not too sure but all i know is pro just lets your download the software for the xp virtualization. dam i suck at spelling =x
