Just got my new computer and so far so good. I do have two questions though:
1. When I press the power button the fans start churning and I hear the system booting up. However about 5 seconds into it everything shuts down and goes silent for about 5 seconds and then it starts up again and boots up normally. This happens every time I turn on the system. It boots up no problem every time but I find it odd that it starts stops and starts again on each boot. Anyone have any idea why this is? 2. There are two discs that came in the binder labeled "image" disc 1 and 2. Are these the disaster recovery discs to bring my pc back to default settings? There is also a MEMTEST disc. What is that? Thanks |

For #1... would it simply be the system throwing power to all the peripherals before it actually starts the boot up? I know that I have an older computer that does that.
#2, I know that they ship disc's for disaster recovery. But since I haven't gotten the $$$ to buy one yet, not 100% sure. |

I believe one of the DS techs wrote something about switching from "Disaster Recovery Disks" to "image discs". They're for the same purpose, so yes, you've got the right idea. MEMTEST is pretty much what it sounds like... memory test. It runs a test on your RAM that will determine if some of your sticks are bad :) |

Wow, I am having the same problem. I just got my system last night and I noticed the same thing. Unfortunately, I have a much larger problem - a completely black screen. I just set up my computer last night and I can't describe how my heart sank when this happened. Every time I press the power button my monitor just stays black as if nothing is connected to it. I'm going to try to figure out what is wrong when I get home from work tonight, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't fearing the worst. I may have to call tech support.

I followed every instruction in the video. Still nothing. I don't know what else to do. This is so disappointing.

The powering off and then back on is due to either Intel VT (Virtualization) being enabled on the processor, or if you have a P55 motherboard, then the power off is so the clockgen can switch modes.
Meaning, it is 100% normal. |

I don't have a P55 motherboard. It's still doing that, but that is the least of my problems. I still have nothing but a black screen after powering up...

Be sure your monitor cable is plugged into the DVI digital connector (white) and not the VGA connector (blue) on the back of your monitor. Also make sure it's the same on the back of your GPU. Digital = white connector / VGA = blue connector.

an update - my computer is plugged into a power strip. i notice when the computer is off but the power strip is on there is a tiny blue light emitting from the motherboard, so it is drawing power. when i shut down and dont turn off the power strip and i start the computer again, it loads up as normal. so it only does the start stop start when i shut the power strip off which cuts off all power to the computer.
weird, and i've never seen this before, but my computer boots up normally.
my real issue is with SLI on my pair of GTX 275's. I started another post about this about a nvlddmkm driver issue that came up playing Arkham Asylum. It only happens when i'm playing in SLI mode. I also tried installing Crysis and that game crashes every time i try to start a new game. This is frustrating...
I guess i'm calling tech support - hopefully they'll be able to address this.

I leave my system on 24/7. I never turn off power to the rig unless I'm running maintenance on it. Some will argue that leaving power on to the rig all the time is bad for it, and some will argue that turning the rig on and off is hard on the hardware juicing it up and down.
I can say that the rig I had prior to the DS rig I left on 24/7, and I got a good hard 5 years out of it with no hardware issues. Back then I was running a gaming clan for 6 years and was working it hard all the time. I'm one of those believers that your hardware suffers more having it juiced up and down. I just set my monitor to sleep after 20 minutes but the rig stays powered up all the time. As far as SLI giving you issues possibly, I've heard that SLI can do that, but I can't give you first hand experience since I'm not running my rig in SLI. I believe I've heard hear that SLI can cause that driver issue too. Maybe DST can elaborate on this a bit more for you. |

ps- B-Comp- the Crysis issue may be due to Nvidia Network Manager (I think that is the name)- check for it and uninstall it- I had the same issue with Crysis awhile back. |

One thing I forgot to say is that I'm on an average plan. If I stay within a certain usage rate then my bill stays consistently low. I spend $250.00 a month every month all year on my average plan. If I used less I could spend less on the average, but our home is 3000 sq. ft., has a 10 ft. plate, 13 ft. ceilings, a boatload of windows and I keep the AC at 75F all day, so it takes a bit to cool and heat this box. But I'm sure you're right, leaving my rig on probably does add to that to some degree. I've never rated it... I probably should. |
