It is VERY important to maintain a clean registry.
First, please open up a run command. (Start->Run->CMD) or Hold down the Windows key and press R. Type in regedit. Then go to File, then Export. Please save your registry back up to a folder you will remember. It is VERY unlikely you will need to use this, but it can happen. Download Abexo Registry Cleaner, Eusing Registry Cleaner and CC Cleaner. I've been using all of these applications for years and guarantee they are malware/spyware free. You can even read the reviews of these applications at download.com. Before running these applications, please take the time to uninstall any unused or unnecessary applications on your system. The reason being, these registry cleaners will come by and clean whatever those programs left behind. From experience 99% of applications leave some dirt. Now you're ready to scan your registry and clean it up!!!! Each of these programs are very straight forward, but if you have any issues please post here and I'll help you out! CC Cleaner has different functions, it cleans your internet traces but also has a registry cleaner. The reason I'm recommending all three is because no matter what order you run them in all three will find issues! Cheers! Edited by skyR - 22 Oct 2007 at 7:00pm |

Wow! Between the three programs, I cleaned up over 1GB and I lost count of the # of entries. I also turned off the services that weren't needed and there is definitely a noticeable performance increase.
Thanks guys!

You need to buy the full versions of these programs not the free downloads, right?

I just used the free versions Harry, and they all seemed to do their job. If I recall correctly, only one of them indicated a "trial period".

Nope, they are all freeware. One of them asks you to register each time you open it, but the program remains fully functional forever.

I reformatted not that long ago and still found a few hundred issues.
I have been using ccleaner for a while and think it's a great little program.
Thanks for the info.

The only way it could have deleted your C drive is if it wasn't being used at all, and therefor wasn't your main drive?

I've been using RegVac Registry Cleaner for a number of years (Full Version around $29.00). It also is a very comprehensive and effective cleaner. Totally safe and easy for the novice user. It also has some very in depth functions for the experienced user. I highly recommend it along with the others posted here.
Another great cleaner for your PC is A-1 Ultra PC Cleaner. This is another layer of comprehensive cleaners for your PC aside from the Registry. Both great programs to consider. |

I've been using Clean Up for awhile. Just ran it and cleared around 350MB, then ran Eusing, and ended up with 848 items in need of repair. Running the last now.

Just an FYI - I ran A1Click Ultra PC Cleaner on my wife's computer yesterday and removed over 100,000 problems, around 3.4gigs, from her PC. I hadn't run it in about 2 years until yesterday. Although she has a piddly little Dell system, it's running much smoother now.
This program is awesome! Been using it on my own rig for a number of years. http://regvac.com/ |

People, just be aware that Registry Cleaner can also mess up your window registry. Make sure you backup your registry before run any reg cleaner. Some cleaner can be too agressive in cleaning out your registry. I use CCleaner to clean out my temp files but when it come to the window reg i usually do it myself but i use CCleaner as a double verification tool. |

This very true, some programs can be way too aggressive. Although, I've never had any issues with RegVac or A1 Click Ultra PC Cleaner. These programs clean as default only the safe entries and issue that should be taken out immediately. It gives you the options to go over other entries and warns you about removing them before you do. Simple instructions... Red light, Yellow light, Green light. Kind of dummy proof. |

CCleaner actually does have at least one dangerous option. The "Cleaner" section has check box to delete Windows Explorer Recent Documents; apparently not the list of recent documents, but the documents themselves. You really, really, really do not want to do this.
I did.
After running CCleaner, all my Word and Excel files were gone! Incinerated not recycled. Imagine that for a moment....
Fortunately, I'd done a backup a week ago. "Acronis" comes through again.

Well I ran the Abexo cleaner and the Eusing cleaner and I don't think they did anything. The Abexo cleaner scanned and found 1038 entries but when I tried to repair them it told me to register. I thought it was free.
I also ran Eusing, scanned, but when I tried to repair the issues it just froze. And now I'm trying to uninstall it but it says it cant open the INSTALL.LOG file. What should I do? |

Buy the full version. Typically when you run a free registry cleaner it will find and isolate all the issues, but it will not remove them. To remove them you usually have to buy the full version. I know this to be the case with RegVac and A1 Click Ultra PC Cleaner. I have them both (Full versions), but when I had just the free versions, I could never actually remove anything. It just finds and isolates. I may be wrong with other brands. Edited by EdH63 - 15 Feb 2008 at 8:02am |

I ran the Eusing free reg. cleaner on my vista 64 system, and now I've got some problems. I has turned my desktop black, and will not allow me to mke any changes. It also has disabled the control panel, which makes it hard to try to do anything about it. It ALSO turned off or deleted my print spooler, and when I go into services to turn it back on it gives me an error that it can't find the files.
Now, the Eusing cleaner did a backup of the registry when it ran, but when I double clicked on those files, they disappeared and didn't do anything at all, and are now apparently gone
![]() ![]() ![]() does ANYONE know what I can do here? everything else on the system (games, apps, etc.) seem to still work ok, but I need to use the printer, and the all black desktop + no control panel is also kind of a drag...
oh boy..what did I do?
