Morning all,

I need to reinstall Vista Ultimate, as my system is always hanging.  But I was not given a CD key for my OEM disk.  Here is a cool little program that will find your cd key in your registry, and un-encrypt it for you.  Then you can either write it down or print it out to stick in your DS folder.

Small little exe file and best of all its free.

Hopes this helps some of you out.

Now that's one handy utility.

+1 vote to add this to SkyR's stickied thread index.

Roger,
Are you saying there wasn't a Windows product key sticker on your case anywhere? (default= right side panel)

Hey Duke,

There is not (and never was) a Windows sticker on the side of my machine.  There is, unfortunately, a Digital Storm Serial Number sticker. My Windows sticker is on the back cover of the Windows "manual", where I'd expect it to be.

If it's not obvious, I don't think you guys should put stickers on the outside of your cases. It's unattractive on a stock case, and down right criminal to do that to one of your custom painted machines. I can see that there are practical reasons for wanting to put the sticker on the machine. If you feel like you must put the Windows sticker on the case why not put it on the back or on the inside of one of the side panels? People would still find it if they were motivated.

if I were to "complain" about one thing... this is it.  I had specifically asked not to have any stickers stuck to the outside of my case.  When I opened the box, there they were.  I took them off and now it's pretty again.

The key generator is a nice little program.

Might that be a Microsoft requirement?  When I got my 64 bit Vista OEM disc, it had language with it indicating that the sticker had to be affixed to the PC.

Great minds think alike. What's our excuse?

I'd love the opportunity to tell M$ where they can affix their sticker.

Yes according to MS licensing rules, the product key sticker must be attached to the PC chassis.

We've even tried to get microsoft to give us special permission to put them in the book instead of on the painted side panel, but no. Darn licensing rules.

I guess this means that I'll have to turn you in to Redmond. Of course if a DS tee-shirt showed up in my mail box, I might have one of my memory "spells".

Seriously, who is the licensee; you or the customer?

Does MS state how the Key sticker must be attached. Maybe DSO can juts put it on with tape so it's easy to remove and no goop to scrape off Wink
