I am looking for a good gaming keyboard with at least ten macro keys. Newegg's ratings on the G510 are so so at best and I can't find many ratings on Razer keyboards. What do you all recommend?

I love my G15 (I have the old version w/ 18 macros - the key layout looks a lot like the 510)

I use a standard Microsoft Wireless Ergonomic keyboard for my non-gaming, then when I am ready to game, I just lift it out of the way and plug in my Logitech G13 mini-keyboard.

Using a G110 right now, it's basically the precursor to the G510. 510's basically just a mashup of the G110 and the G15 with a colored LCD, really. Check out the key layout, exact G110 layout, just different plastic color scheming. The G110's awesome for me, raised keys > razer's flat keys, much more responsive in split-second FPS gaming. 110 has 12 macros available, fyi.

Is the mapping/macro software the same for the G110 and G510?

I have a RAZER Tarantula - Works like a champ for me, easy to program macro keys using software that resides in your system tray. I seem to be the only one, I just don't like Logitech anything so when I was looking at Macro capable keyboards this was the one I selected.

I have been using it daily for gaming with assigned macros for more than 2 years, there are 10 keys to program but you can have up to 12 profiles so in theory 120 different macros.

I only use about 8 for Everquest 2, and it has a cool blue Razer logo that lights up in the center of the keyboard near where your wrists sit, it looks pretty cool.

had a razer tarantula before, meh, the keys are wayyy too low for me to use them effectively in a FPS. wouldn't respond half the time since the halfway point is so low.

Keyboards are subjective, besides a few basic benchmarks like N key rollover test.

If you have a store that you can try out several keyboards, that would be the best.
Remember that like picking anything, you need to set a budget, and pick the best for you in that price range.
Because keyboards vary so much, all of my main working/gaming machines have the same keyboard, it was a huge pain in the but switching from one to the other.
Filco makes very good keyboards if you want something nice, steelseries also makes some good, but less $ keyboards.  Some Saitek's are ok, same with some Microsoft.

Logitech, just my personal preference but holy crap, every keyboard I have tried from them,  is  a slab of steaming dog poo. I will take my $2.99 Microsoft board over any logitech, by a mile.. but again that is just me, go try out as many as you can, and pick the one you like the best.

as just said very subjective, i usually suggest shopping at best buy becuase i know that they have a 30 day full money back no questions asked policy, i used this to try out both the g15 and the razer lycosa, both of which i thought were pretty crappy personally, im sticking with my 8-10 year old (if not more) Logitech internet navigator keyboard
which is pretty lol but for me has an absoultely perfect feel, layout, sound, etc and i have yet to replace it regaurdless of budget

mechanical keyboards are a topic lost on me, i dont see the point.. in my personaluse, layout trumps everything and you definitely do not have to spend a lot to get a solid keyboard

Best buy was my first thought but my local store does not carry many keyboards.
