Hey guys... How many of you play flight sim or race car games and have kids?  How many of those kids are into trains?

Well I am an avid gamer.  If you seen my setup at home (4 monitors, G25 racing wheel, CH Yoke, Ch Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Rudder Pedals, Saitek x52 (and soon to be x52 Pro!!!!) and numerous other gadgets), you would think I am obsessed, which isn't far from the truth.  Well I have a 3 yr old son who is in LOVE with trains.  He's always playing with my computer, so what I am doing is building him  a train simulator.  I have an extra pc which will be perfect for it.

I am then Buying this:

Desktop Train Cab Controller

RailDriver%20Desktop%20Train%20Cab%20Controller
RailDriver%20Image%201 RailDriver%20Image%202
RailDriver%20Image%203 RailDriver%20Image%204

Drive your train with realistic throttle, brake, reverser, and switch controls, plus 34 programmable buttons. RailDriver™ Desktop Train Cab Controller — feel like you're driving a train, not a computer.

RailDriver™ currently supports:

  • Microsoft Train Simulator
  • Auran Trainz Classics, 2006, 2004, and UTC
  • TrainMaster 4.3

RailDriver™ will also be supported by the new Microsoft™ Train Simulator and the new Kuju Rail Simulator when each of those programs is released.

So if you have a kid obsessed with trains, this could be a fun gadget!!!

my goodness, I still love trains to this day.  What I got downstairs is a huge ass train set, there are also mountains, hill tunnels, Working waterfalls, houses, a city area, farm area, pine tree's, oak tree's, bushes around the houses, plus my train has the real smoke affect.  there are also freeways and roads implemented in the structer as well.  it's basically my neighborhood and I did the best I could with the surrounding areas including part of the city.  This structer took me a good 3 years to this day to get everything perfect, but there is still much to be added :).

You should definitly get him one of those train sets and build something like I have.  I forgot how to spell it but foam and paper machey(spelling?) are your best friend.  Definitly get those professional train sets man.  once your done, he is going to frickin LOVE it.

I am 27 years old and I still love my train structer and set.

Yeah, my dad and I used to have the Lionel sets as a kid, but unfortunately, I don't make enough money to get into that hobby.
So the next best thing is to get a conductor's hat, chair and let him have at his own train!  :D

I am envious that you have all of that.  I wish I could afford it.

The trains that have smoke in them are not that expensive at all.  My structer didn't cost over $50.00.   for the waterfall, I used a fountain I have in my room, it's just alittle fountain you get at "Spencers" at the mall.  I took foam hollowed it out, painted it, put it over the fountain and wooohooo!.   I put way more effort in mine then money really.  the only thing I am missing is "people" Cry  That train simulator looks like fun, have you ever played it?
