I have used Killer Nics in my last two home builds and also opted for the wireless in my x17 that I recently ordered. I have heard a few people here saying they have not heard anything good about them, where I did with my other builds. Is it that pointless? Just have not seen anything so far in DS's choices that were just mere fluff, besides the personalizing things like lighting, engraving, and case choices.

I have no personal experience with Killer 2100 cards, but all feedback from forum members has been negative with some saying the setup is a pain. Reviews I've seen show little difference with th exception of LAN gaming, where it might be worth the money. For online gaming its debateable.
DS tries to offer as much as possible to its customers and leaves the debating to others. I'm sure there are some that can prove this wrong by personal experence but in general it seems not wrth it. If in your area, friends can show results then go for it. No review applies to everyone. Edited by bprat22 - 29 Sep 2012 at 5:30pm |

I own the Killer 2100. It is the only Killer product I own, so I cannot attest to any other products. I purchased it largely because I wanted to test it out, and I had already reduced my rig's cost by over 2,000$ so I figured a little unnecessary expenditure wasn't going to hurt.
![]() I will say that for me it has resulted in an increase in speed. The amount of increase has fluctuated, varying from as low as a 6% increase up to as much as a 15% increase. These were not laboratory conditions, so its its possible other variables were in play, but that being said, I did go way out of my way to reduce as many of them as possible. At the end of the day, I do not regret my decision to purchase the card, because I cut nothing else out for it, nor was I expecting anything great of it. In spite of that, I would probably not recommend the card unless you, as bprat22 has mentioned, know someone in your immediate area, that uses the same service, that gets noticeable results. In games I can only think of maybe a couple of times where the NIC vs. the Onboard made a noticeable difference, and this was out of dozens of tests. I never once had the Killer hurt my performance or speed (as some people seemed to have had) but unless you really know it will help and want to pay that much for the increase, skip and save the money for another upgrade or for something else nice. ![]() Edited by Tidgxor - 29 Sep 2012 at 5:56pm |

On your x17....you didn't go wrong for the extra $12. I have the 1103 and I believe the only difference is yours has bluetooth and mine doesn't. In my opinion, the Killer's work fine. I went with it based on a couple of decent reviews.
I would recommend in the control panel you disable the nag to check for updates. Killer's driver updates sometimes cause more issues than they cure. If your works fine, then don't update the driver just because the nag says so. If you load iTunes and it doesn't work, then update to a more recent driver depending on what they give you at the factory but, otherwise, stay with what comes with the machine. I updated to the most recent and it caused me some dropping issues. Went back to the one on the disc and all is well again. For the price....I'm fine with it.

Mine and Tidgxor's feedback was for the wired desktop Killer card. Bobby's feedback is probably more pertinent to the laptop coming in. I would go with his.

Baby Huey,
Take a look at this review.Especially the remarks at the end. The 2100 takes up a slot that many can't afford. You just don't get a performance boost that justifies the cost or use of a slot. Frank Edited by FrankW - 30 Sep 2012 at 1:52pm |
