Anyone that has this or know's anything about it? What are the performance gains? Does it really work? Thinking of getting one for Xmas to help lower my ping if it does work.

All the review's I have read so far have not been in much favor. Wanted to hear from someone that actually has one.

I have Cable internet and using Speedtest.net it shows my ping at 30ms...but when playing games I'm sitting at 250ms....dunno why its so high.

for that i couldn't tell you . maybe it's the server your trying to get into, maybe its your firewall, maybe its your network settings. i don't know much about networks and stuff like that . did you try to look up "High Ping" on google to find a result ?

It all depends on what your playing. If its an actuall dedicated server, or like someones extra pc hosting it.

The reason its so high on a game as opposed to the speedtest.net testing is because the server is under a much higher load. It is telling multiple other computers the exact same thing its telling yours. In short, ping is the amount of time it takes your computer to send a packet of information to a server and the server to send one back and when you receive it thats a finished loop, and it repeats, a lot.

Your internet speed and distance from the server play a major roll. Other things that can play a major roll is your modem, and router(if you have one). Older models are generally slower.

So perhaps try upgrading your modem/router? Its cheaper than going out and spending 200 dollars on the NIC card which really isnt worth it.

Like PB said, your distance from your speednet is known your distance the game server is not known. try picking a server farther from you in the test and you should see your ping time go up.

Very good point PB and DST4ME. I forgot about that part lol. After checking ping in different locations it went up to about what I normally play at. So the servers that I'm connecting to are obviously not very close.

Back to my original question. Do you think the Killer NIC would help at all?

from what I understand its not worth its price and somewhat of a overkill, if it did help, I doubt it would be something you would notice.

your line ability and the server's ability are the deciding factors

Pretty good review on it... kind of old though.. this is when it first came out I think... hope it helps

Edit: but I do agree with DTS4ME.. It is over kill and if you are going all out its not going to hurt your gaming at all but it wont help all that much either..

Your CPU is fast enough to where you won't notice a difference.

Well if I will not notice much of a difference ie; 3-5 FPS increase and perhaps lose a 3-5ms on my latency, then I do not think I can justify spending $220 on it. I was hoping for maybe a 20-30ms drop but I guess that will not happen.

I will just save my money and buy a 2nd 4870 for Crossfire.

The second 4870 will get you more than a 4-5 fps increase. Thus a better choice. IMO that is.

What brand would you guys recommend? I currently have a Visiontek, but it looks like the changed the reference cooler. Any ideas?? Looks like new cooler will dump heat into my case which I'm not too fond of...
