Hello, I am going to be moving to Japan in late march and need a laptop.
1. My budget is 1200-1800, though the more I can save the better. 2. Laptop 3. I will be using my laptop for work (word processing, etc.) and need it to be portable with decent battery life for my travels, but I also would like to do some gaming as well. would a configuration such as this be able to handle current and most games this upcoming year? Obviously I am not looking for face shredding graphics and FPS, just the ability to play decently. 4. I don't need the computer until I leave, so I can wait a month or two if prices are about to drop or better hardware is about to be released. As long as I get it before I leave. Hopefully after a year I can afford a desktop but in the meantime I would love to have my cake and eat it too lol. Ticket # 469293 I really appreciate anyone who is willing to help! Thanks! |

sorry no one responded to you earlier. laptops are more straightforward than desktops. with the build you have there you will have to run many current games on low. I reccomend using this build with more graphics power: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/laptoploadsaved.asp?id=471765

it depends on your needs, of course, but basically what he said: laptops just arent gaming machines
if you are looking to game, desktop is the way to go
what you have to decide is if you need to GAME on the move. if the answer to that is no, you could consider getting a desktop which will give you more gaming power for less money, and using the leftover to get yourself a netbook or something similar, especially if you just need it for work or school

I think you can run wow and sc2 on your laptop, but the problem is that as mentioned laptops are not made for gaming, the gpu power is limited and more importantly your laptop will get hot after a short while.

WOW and SC2 are very CPU dependant games also. SC2 needs a fast mofo CPU to get good FPS.

He can run it, how well, I'm not sure, but I figure he will be ok with i7qm on turbo, unless he gets teh 17E with the desktop chip.

its a 116% difference on metro 2033 at medium settings so essentially yes. Its over 100% increase on every other game from medium settings to ultra settings too so its double the power from the build you selected before. Also the build you want won't be able to play the newest games at all soon while this chip will be able to play games for a while. the 460m can play starcraft 2 on ultra at 30fps while the card you want can only play it on ultra at 10fps which is unplayable
