I wanted to upgrade to windows 8 but I wanted to know if I do upgrade my laptop would I still have the software on it to control the lights on the keyboard

You'll have to re-install that software. It should be with your driver CD that came with the laptop.

You won't have the software at first but its a really easy fix.
After upgrading test your laptop hotkeys to see if they work. If not, download the Hotkey Driver for Windows 8. Unistall the old hotkey driver and install the new one and you should be good to go! This is from my experience with upgrading to Windows 8 on my x17, but I also upgraded the first day it was available. Edit: Didn't see Alex's post. Try that first.
