So, I recently purchased a DS machine (and love it!) but my girlfriend is rather jealous of it. I, of course, am taking advantage of this by pretending I'm very concerned and consoling her that we'll get her a new comp after we move next year... Little does she know that I plan on ordering her a machine for her birthday!
The thing is, I'd been planning to build her a desktop like mine but recently she's been thinking aloud that she might prefer to replace her desktop with a laptop. How big of a difference is there anymore? I've always been biased toward desktops and I know at the extreme top end a desktop will perform better, but if we're shopping in the $1300-ish range, how big is the performance gap? Ultimately, she'll be playing WoW with me and Starcraft II. She has other games, but those are really the two that would be the most taxing. Thanks, Oak |

A desktop is always going to be more powerful, but, with the same funds you spend on a desktop versus a laptop, the laptop does truly have it's portable advantages. In addition, the latest generation of graphics such as the GTX 560M are great choices that can play all of today's games.
