Below is the X17 build I should be ordering in the next couple of weeks.  I will be using it as a desktop replacement and traveling with it about once a month.

While the current build is well within my budget, what are your opinions on adding a longer warranty on a laptop?  Is extending the hardware warranty to 3 years for an extra $247 worth the money or should I spend that money to upgrade either the CPU or SSD?

In the past I have usually added a longer warranty to my systems, but in thinking back, I can't remember having used it

If you haven't used warranty plans before, use that extra cash to increase the size of your SSD, 80GB isn't really enough, a 120GB will be a lot easier to work with. Other than that, the laptop looks great, if you have extra cash after the SSD upgrade, you might want to consider getting the GTX 580M.

When I said I had not used the extended warranty, I guess I've been lucky with my past systems and did not have to use it.  My concern, I guess, is given the higher end components, are they more likely to go out or have something fail between the end of year 1 and the end of 3 years.

Thanks again

Your part warranty is only one year if I'm not mistaken with the laptops.

Alex is correct about what he said, more room for on the ssd for games is great, and so is a better gpu since you can't upgrade the gpu in a laptop, but I also like to have warranty on laptops for as long as I plan on owning them, but thats just me.

IMHO, laptops are upgraded as systems in 2 years, given the difficulty in finding the proprietary parts for most laptops. I dunno for your case, but I'd just go for better hardware now.

If you take care of your laptop very well, then you don't need the extra warranty. Don't spill liquids on your laptop because these laptops don't cover accidental spills.

True, having a longer warranty is always nice, especially for a laptop since we always carry them around.
