I just wanted to announce that we've updated our laptop section on the website. There are some new offerings, and the most important aspect of them all is new low pricing.

Nice! FYI though, on the main page, the S17 is described as 'starting at $1791', which made my eyes bulge out...but evidently, that's a mistake, as on the configuration page, the price is listed at a (much more believable) $2576.
Will there be any prebuilds like the badass ones for the desktops? Edited by Jingping - 26 Aug 2009 at 8:36pm |

@aceboy44,
Windows XP is going to be long gone soon bro. Plus, the laptops don't even have drivers for Windows XP anymore.

Sager notebook configurator:
DS notebook configurator (same model as sager notebook)
Sorry alex, but I don't think DS is the best choice for me, as they don't offer me the same freedom sager and sony notebooks offer me.
Oh did I forget to mention that sony laptops also offers cosnumers windows XP as an OS?
MSI laptops (windows xp)
The list is endless....

How is not getting a coupon for Win 7 a "freedom"? How is not offering an i7 processor "freedom"? Even the graphics option is worse. Sheesh. At least get real competition as examples.
Oh.. and here's a fun webpage since we're tossing them out there:
How's that company looking now?

Anybody that browses the forums for a few minutes can see that aceboy44 is here to try and stir up trouble and make DSO look bad. Unfortunately he's doing a poor job of it.

Have you tried looking at cyberpower or ibuypower, their laptops come with a wide selection of components and are cheaper than ds's offerings.

@aceboy44,
No one here means any harm using any sort of 'hostile tongue.' I assure you.
We will be more than happy to special order and request Windows XP Professional for you at the same price as the Vista Home Preimum offering that comes with the Windows 7 coupon.
I do want to add, one of the other reasons that we don't offer Windows XP with it, is also because it does not come with a Windows 7 coupon. Windows XP is going to be discontinued in terms of support from Microsoft, and it's a very old operating system.
I personally would recommend you stick with our recommendation of Vista Home Premium and then upgrade to Windows 7 using the free upgrade coupon. If you are using Windows XP due to some old legacy applications, Windows 7 will let you run a virtual box of Windows XP within it for those purposes.

Regarding I do not live in USA so I do not think that I will be using the 3-years warrently service you offer me so how much will this laptop costs me if:
1) Downgrade from 3 years warrently - 30 days warrently/money back guarentee?
2) Downgrade HDD from 320GB - 80GB?
3) Upgrade cpu from T9600 (2.8Ghz) - T9900 (3.06Ghz)?
4) Downgrade VGA from 1GB - 256mb?

@aceboy44,
1) We could take off perhaps $45 from the price.
2) It would be a $18 credit if you went from a 320GB to a 80GB [5400RPM] laptop hard drive.
3) It would cost $267 to upgrade to the T9900 [This will be a special order].
4) We won't be able to offer changes on the video card.

I have to admit that XP is a great OS but, I also have to admit that I am using Vista 64 bit and Windows 7 and love them both. I do use XP for my laptop though.

Personally, I'd take the 3 yr warranty and the regular 320gb hard drive. It's only like 60 bucks difference so might as well. You're already paying 2 grand or more anyway. Also, are you trying to drop the ram on the vid card so you can use a 32 bit OS? You should be able to use the 32 bit stuff on the 64 bit system with minor tweaking, if any. I'm sure the DS techs can help if it really comes down to it. Oh.. and no hostility toward you. I know you're concerned and have views that seem... eccentric.. to me. I was more being hostile toward that company you posted.. wow.. they suck.
Good luck in getting your laptop

There isn't even any tweaking needed to run 32-bit apps in vista 64-bit, all you have to do is install it in the 32 program folder and it should be fine.
the only thing that is different is that 64-it can't do 16-bit anymore, those are the apps that won't run in 64-bit, so most apps/games should be just fine. |

My reply was not ment for you. It was ment for other members (no need to mention names) with childish behavior.
I still did not make up my mind on whether or not I would purchase a new laptop from DS, as their laptops (no offense DS) are ugly. However, I do like their personalized user manual thing. I don't know why I would purchase a new gaming laptop while my silver sony laptop is attracting me with its pretty build-design
P.S: build design is more important to me than performance, as the games I play on my laptop does not really require a power horse. I only need a new laptop because my sony laptop overheats (temp. reach 96c) while playing games on it, as a result of upgrading it from Core 2 duo 2.4Ghz to Core 2 duo T9900 3.06Ghz
List of games I play:
1) Warcraft lll
2) Command & Conquer general zero hour
3) Battlefield 2
4) Sonic Mega Collection

I stuck a x9000 in my dell and its doing OK, it replaced a t7700, and its under stress 24/7, my highest temps are 85c. I' not surprised to hear that about sony tho, that is what happens when you put looks before performance IMO.

I thought about upgrading the cpu in my HP but decided against it. The T5600 (1.8ghz dual core) in my HP ran up to 82c after 20 mins on 1 instance of prime95 before I stopped the test.

Laptop cooler are good at what they do i.e. pushing air, but they are often poorly designed so the fans in the coolers don't align to the exhast vents of the laptop, thus resulting in minimal or non existant preformance gains.
Though I do hear the high end Zalaman notebook coolers have fans that directly match the vents of the alienware m17x, and some users are seeing improvments of ~5 C. on their machines. Edited by sirsiddius - 28 Aug 2009 at 9:27am |

On the main page, the S15 is stated as coming with the GTX 280M, but on the configuration page, it becomes a 260M. Which one is it? I'd imagine that the configuration page is wrong, because if it's a 260M, there's no way it should cost $100 more than the other 260M builds, as it has less RAM, lower resolution, no bluray, and less hard drive space...
Your website updater needs to start paying more careful attention, there's been a lot of errors lately =P Edited by Jingping - 29 Aug 2009 at 6:20pm |

Bump. Alex, can you confirm if the S15 is a 260M or a 280M? I'm seriously pondering laptops right now. Thanks.

A lot of redesigning has been going on and mistakes will happen. I am sure it will be corrected as soon as one of the DS staff reads this post.

Okay...I am now even more confused. See the below comparison of the S15 to the A15V2; red means the part is inferior, blue means the part is superior by comparison.;
The S15 comes with a 1680x1050 screen, a T9600 processor, 1x320gb hard drive, 4gb of 1066mhz DDR3 RAM, a GTX260M, 3 USB ports, and a 'standard' laptop bag. It costs $1821 (base). The A15V2 comes with a 1920x1080 screen, a Q9000 processor, 2x320gb hard drive, 4gb of 800mhz DDR2 RAM, a GTX260M, 4 USB ports, and a 'premium' laptop bag. It costs $1707 (base). Is the difference in RAM speed really worth nearly $120, on top of a superior processor, a superior screen, a better laptop bag, an extra USB port, and double the size of the hard drive?! Why is the (from what I can tell) overall inferior product almost $120 dollars more expensive?! What am I missing? Edited by Jingping - 01 Sep 2009 at 8:40pm |

To be honest, both of those models are completely different. The A15V2 was designed for high-volume in retail sales, which has a lower price. The S15 is more of a customized platform that we made to a pre-built deal which makes it more expensive.
