Just received message that my DS machine has passed stage 7 & should be shipping shortly. Currently running a samsung SyncMaster 226 BW that I really like, but would prefer something larger, as I think I would prefer a single monitor setup, unless I could run dualies of what I have. New machine has the EVGA superclocked 460GTX, so don't know if dual monitors are even possible.
Anyway, I know the dell 24" has a pretty decent approval range, but would prefer something in the 27"-30" range. Is there anything out there that would not disappoint me coming from my loved Samsung? Not a fanboy or hater of any brand. Just want to be able to have a couple windows open at the same time without going blind. Thanks Paul |

if you are plaining on gaming, then that 460 is gonna have a hard time pushing higher res, your current monitor has a res o 1600 x 1200, which is fine for the 460, the dell ips 24" will have 1900 x 1200 and a 27-30" monitor these days will have a 2560 x 1600 res.
none of those other then 1600 x 1200 can the 460 handle in gaming with highest settings. Some games you will be fine, but some games you won't. it all depends on what games you playing also. now if you are not talking about gaming then you are good. |

Damn DST4ME - you really do prowl these boards!!!
Thanks for the ultra quick response - I didn't even have time to make a sandwich. Unfortunately, I don't really have the time to game that much. Was hoping to be able to have a firefox window open and a spreadsheet or two at the same time, or a tv window and another doc. Do you have any recommendations in the 27-30" arena, or would you suggest a 24"? I am really looking forward to my new machine, I see they oc'd it to 3.91ghz-sweet! |

3.91 shaweeeet
well I guess you had plenty of time to make a few sandwiches and watch a couple of movie by now
I like the ips panels so for the 24" its Dell UltraSharp U2410, or newer Dell UltraSharp U2311H 23", and for the 30" it would be Dell UltraSharp U3011 30, or the older Dell UltraSharp 3008WFP, tho here I prefer the u3011 your 460 will have no problem running 2 x 30" monitors for you with the usage you just mentioned. ![]() Edited by DST4ME - 11 Jan 2011 at 1:43am |

what kind of price range are you looking at?
for your use its really going to depend on what kind of clarity you are looking for, if you are more interested in having a huge picture with some noticible loss in clarity, you could pick up a 1920x1080 25"+ monitor
but keep in mind the resolution is just pixel count.. so the bigger the screen gets, the more clarity you will sacrifice if you dont also increase the resolution (which increases the price)
from what ive seen, 1920x is happiest around 22 inches, so if clarity is important to you, id stick closer to 22-23
