1.) Nobody seems to order the Raven2 chassis. Any particular reason?
2.) Would the Raven 2 chassis give me a quiter rig without sacrificing cooling?
3.) Would the Zalman fan upgrade help the noise or are they just longer
lasting fans?
4.) I will be ordering the wooden crating for shipping ($200?).
How would I include that in the total price? I am in no hurry so
you can ship after the holidays!
Thanks and Cheers

1. cause rav2 chassis sucks.
2. refer to 1. 3. they are loud also, just not as loud as the led fans. 4. you add the $200 after you apply the discount, its best to call and order, call Sarah at 1-866-817-8676 Extension: 115 and she will set you up things to remeber: most of your noise comes from your gpu's fans when they are under load (playing games, heavy use, etc), so unless you get LC on gpu, you gonna have a loud computer when its under load. I think I can give you a better system then what you got but I need to know what is your budget? and what resolution will you be gaming at? |

ok so your config is $2166 with the p55 platform for which the cpu can't be upgraded and this platform will not be continued, my config is $2266, but it has the x58 platform which means once the 6core cpu comes out, you can upgrade to it whenever you want, comes with the 920 which is a great overclocker, comes with the haf 932 case which is bigger and has more room to grow, has 6GB of ram, the LE motherboard which has many pci slots for future upgrades, and win7 pro with xp support:
Here you go Ticket# 366272 --- Price: $2266 (To see this build click here) Price after current promotion $2266 Copy of Specifications: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Not Available Trim Accents: - Not Available Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: EVGA X58 LE Edition SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 750W Corsair TX (Dual SLI Compatible) Expansion Bay: - Not Available Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Set 1 Raid Options: - Not Available Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: 1x (500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 1: Noctua Dual 120mm Fans High Performance Cooler (Compatible With ONLY i7 Processors) H20 Tube Color:- Not Available Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Red) Enhancements: - Not Available Chassis Mods: - Not Available Noise Reduction: - Not Available Boost Processor: FREE: Stage 1: Overclock the processor between 3.3GHz to 3.9GHz (Requires Air Cooling Upgrade) Boost Video Card: - Not Available Boost Memory: - Not Available Boost OS: - Not Available Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-Bit Edition) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Virus Protection: - Not Available Office: - Not Available Benchmarking: - Not Available Install/Test Game: - Not Available Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-10 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty I forgot to add the free game and tshirt so make sure you add those 2 only, leave the other free stuff alone you don't want them. I have a question about the build. Knowing that a 5870 saturates a x8 PCI-E bus as per justin, does the EVGA x58 3X SLI motherboard offer the ability to run crossfired cards at x16 speed in the event this guy adds another card down the road? I think the X58 LE board runs one card at x16 and one card at x8 in crossfire or SLI thus the reason i'm asking.

Wouldn't it stand to reason that for 60 bucks more the guy should go with the 3X motherboard just in case?

Would like to know the answer to this question as well...to run 2ea 5870's do you need to upgrade to the 3x board versus the le board ? Seems to be some questions about this....about to order....would like to have a little future proofing....

3x sli has the same 16x 8x combo.
you can run cf with 16x 8x combo. of course 16x lanes are preferred when possible. |

So the only way to get 2 x16 lanes is with the micro board or the classified board? That's silly. What are you paying extra money for with the 3X board for over the LE board then?

unless I missed something there are few minor details that 3x has extra but that is why we started recommending LE over 3x cause there was not much of a point to 3x.
then again maybe the 3x does do 16x on both slot 1 and 2. anyways I know guys on the evga forums that run their 5870 cf on 8x lanes and they say they do very well in it. it all depends on your use really, if you got 16x and 8x going and are getting 60fps with that setup, you are not gonna notice the difference at 1900 x 1200 with 2 x 5870, but if you are doing that with crysis, then you might notice a bit, to be honest as you all know for 1900 x 1200 you only need 1 x 5870 anyways, you would need to cf 5870 if you are going 2560 x 1600. if you are trying to benchmark then the 16x and 8x will make a big difference for you with the ati cards. for this member if he wants to do cf, he needs to think about his psu first before he worries about 16x or 8x. Sure thing. I'm not trying to question your suggested configuration just trying to learn some more about the motherboards and such. This is mostly for my own edification going forward if I decide to get a crossfired configuration I would want both cards running at 16x speed. The EVGA site was not clear whether cards running in crossfire/SLI for the 3X were both at x16 or one was in x16 and one was in x8. Thus the reason I was asking for clarification. Hope I didn't cause any problems.

So, the question is what is the most affordable mobo that can run 2ea 5870 in crossfire at 16x or is just better to go ahead and get a 5970 and forget about the crossfire????

@sjjohns23, sounds like I came off wrong, I was just trying to provide some info, I did't mean to suggest that you were causing any problems or questioning anything, if I did come off that way I appologize.
looking at evga's site/forum, sounds like the 3x can do 2 x 16x but its slot 1 and 2 which means you get high temps since the cards are close, but with classified 3x you get 2 x 16x in slot 1 and 3, so that is a better setup. so 2 x 16 looks to be the x58 micro, 3x sli and classified 3x and 4x. 2 x 5870 is better then 1 x 5970 Edited by DST4ME - 21 Dec 2009 at 1:51pm |

PCIe 8x for a stock 5870 will not bottleneck it much, some games 10% some 1%, but the 5870 has such a huge overclock potential that when overclocked the bottleneck becomes more severe.. On the other hand most of us overclockers also overclock the PCIe bus to raise the bandwidth. lol

I did as well. No need for alarm or apologies DST4ME. I didn't take anything you said in the wrong way. I'm just trying to learn more about computers in the areas where I'm lacking knowledge. Thanks for the information provided by both DST and Justin. Useful as usual guys.
