Topic: LCS Questions + Temps Posted: 11 Aug 2010 at 7:23pm |
Hello everyone, i have a few questions and perhaps you guys can help me out a bit.
I Look at the liquid (inside the little cube) Not sure what it is called but i see some sort of dirt build up or at least it looks like some sort of dirt or stains. Not sure if this usually happens or not, perhaps i should take it out and empty the liquid and clean it? I have had the computer since January 2010. Also my idle temps are about 46/47 C's now even with my low Vcore @ 1.282 @ 3.8ghz. Though my ambient temps are quite high @ 80-83 F. I do have a double Rad, Maybe Triple would fair much much better? |

Could you take a picture of what you are talking about so we can look at it?

This is the best pic i can get for you guys to at least give you an idea where my liquid is mostly located. You cannot see in this picture but i believe there are some sort of dust particles inside it, not that much but a little.

I want to upgrade my radiator somewhat soon. What triple rad would be good. I guess my price range would be less than 100 dollars.

I have a question about Liquid Cooling as well. Somehow my liquid level has gone down about 3/8" in the reservoir. It's not at a dangerous level yet, but I don't know where it went (no trace of leakage in case) and I would rather put some back in before it gets worse.
My question is: can you mix colors of liquid? I have red at the moment, but a friend says he has some blue I could use. Other than making it slightly purple, would it hurt anything to mix these? |

@Born2rade, I can't seem to see your picture clearly. Sorry bud! A quick and easy way to boost your cooling system is to dust out your radiators to ensure they are clear (I can see some dust build up on your hoses). Other ideas are to increase the fan speeds on the radiator or add another radiator to the loop.
@Optimystic, the water level tends to drop slowly, but, it may depend in the environment it is in. You can add the blue-fluid, just make sure you don't need to dilute it with liquid first. I personally recommend you use distilled water instead since it's thinner and clear to prevent any gunk build up over time. |

Yeah after i took pictures, i ended up cleaning up all the dust though it does not make the temps better.
I was thinking of buying a triple rad and just replace it with the dual rad i have. I have heard: Swiftech MCR320 or XSPC RX360 are good also GTX 360 and PA120.3. Still not sure which to go with atm and not sure which site to buy them from, So far i know of Frozencpu.com |

According to reviews I've seen from skinneelabs.com, and also comments from justin.kerr on other threads here, is the Swiftech MCR320 is one of the best triple rads when comparing price/performance. The reviews also state the MCR320 and the RX360 are really good for low to medium speed fans. The GTX360 is better with high speed fans, more noise. I have a GTX 360 with Scythe Ultra Kaze 3000rpm fans. lol..it cools quite well, but very loud.
Have you seen this web site?
Hope that helps?

I basically would want to go with medium speed fans.
MCR320 This the Correct One? Black Ice GT Stealth 360 What about this one with medium Fans? I see the radiators come with there own fans. What are good medium speed fans to buy? |

Scythe Gentle Typhoons are recommended frequently for low to medium speed fans. I think justin.kerr has 16 of them on his drunken monkey....
Yes, the MCR320 is the correct one.
Check out the link below. According to what I have read, the GT360 needs higher rpm fans to cool better.
Hope it helps?

Ok well it looks like i will go with the MCR320 with Scythe Fans.
My only question is, when i do buy this radiator Will These Metal Screws fit the new rad just fine, the ones i show in the picture. I know its blurry and hard to see but thats the best picture i can get. |

Just trying to decide which rad to go with and which RPM fans to use with the rads.
MCR320 with 1850 RPM typhoons? or XSPC RX360 with (Not sure which RPM Fans to use) Typhoons? |

the 1850 RPM fans are pretty loud. The gentle typhoons are quiet for 1850 RPM, but still are 1850 RPM. lol If you get the 1850 RPM fans, you will need some type of fan controller, so that you can turn them down for normal usage. the XSPC radiator with 1450 RPM fans is a great combo, but will not cool as well as the MCR 320 + 1850 RPM fans.
The GT fans are silent around 1000RPM-1150RPM..depending on the noise level in your room. so 1150 RPM fans + XSPC radiator is a good choice for silence but will run a few degrees C hotter.

I bought The Antec Tricool 120mm Fan for the side of the case and it's running 1600 rpm (medium speed) and that is not loud at all.
Now i don't know the differences in loudness between the typhoons and the antec tricool fan but even at the highest setting @ 2000 rpm, doesnt seem to bad either.... Now the fans i have on the double rad i have now are loud lol, it feels to me that it's running 2500 rpm+ or something. As long as it's not louder than what i have now than i prob wouldnt mind running the 1850 fans on the MCR320 *Updated* I looked at the fans i have now and they are Zalman 120mm's and it says "Quite fan" I don't know what RPM's they are running at but it feels pretty high. everyones "silent", or quiet, is different. my definition, is in a slient room, when I turn a prodcut on, I can not hear a peep out of it. the silent room is the exact same when it was off, as when it was on. 1850 RPM fans are loud as hell to me.

Thx for all your input :).
So far i'm leaning more towards the MCR320 with the 1850 RPM typhoons. |

Ok i found out the name of the thing that i was talking about. It is called the Compression Fitting I took a picture of that. I wanted to know how you would take them off, do they screw off or what? Also wanted to know if those compression fittings will work with the new rad that i will be getting.
Also what coolant should i use, I thought DS Sold water coolant, i couldn't find it in the products section. Edited by Born2rade - 26 Aug 2010 at 3:54pm |

compression fittings will work fine. you just have to get the correct size for your tubing.
they are 2 piece, a base that has threads, and a barb, then the collar slides over you tubing, and screws to the base. very secure fitting. the G 1/4 thread is pretty much the only thread used in radiators, except for thermochill they use a larger thread.

yep. compressions all the way, if I ever go LC, I'm not trusting the stability of a loop to plastic/metal clamp. seem much flimsier in my opinion.
for coolant, honestly, pure water in its own regards seems to be the best conductor for any water cooling loop. that means distilled water. grocery store, walgreens, whatever. only thing you have to guard against is algae, but you can just order some silver "kill" coils and stick them in there. silver inhibits bacterial growth ^^. |

Well i installed the rad today and emptyed out the water.
Had a small issue though, nothing serious. When i screwed the rad inside after removing my cd rom, i noticed no matter where the cd rom went it would block the tubes from going into the rad.
So i had to turn it around the other way, the two holes on the rad are bascially very close to the back fan in my case (Haf 932).
So one of the tubes was not long enough (From the resvoir to rad). I ordered XSPC Tubes from Jab-tech (4 feet), I'm bascially going to just remove all the tubing that i have now and replace it with the new tubing so it all looks the same.
I know they are the correct Size, My dad measured it. Other than that small issue everything went great. I will let you know how everything went when everything is installed.
