K, so I currently have $400 towards my i7 upgrade, and was wondering: Is it REALLY worth the extra $300 for the Classified over the LE? I mean, I can do it, it's just gonna hurt lol.

All I really do is 3D model, some Photoshop, Mod Crysis, and play some games. I've heard the Classified is awesome, but for what I use, do I really need to spend the extra money?

Edit: I just thought.... It might be a better idea to get the LE and spend the $300 I'll save on 2 more 260 core 192's.Big%20smile

only thing that's "bad" about the LE I've come across in reviews and such is, as i'm sure you know, that SLI or crossfire will run as 2 pcie x8 rather than two x16.

But it does look really cool, and as long as you don't have cards that need a full pcie x16 in SLI (I think this is only an issue with the 285s?) then why spend the money

What?? Who ever said that is just out of their minds.. lol  The LE has the same amount of PCIe lanes as all other non nf200 boards, including the classified 760, and 761

But NOT the Classified 759.

But I don't think it would really matter for me, and by time it does, the Classified will be obsolete anyways.

Er yeah, i meant to say x16 x8, not x8 x8, was thinking of tri sli on the LE which runs at x16 x8 x8. Either way, still not x16 x16

As far as I can tell, the LE actually runs at x16 x8 x4 x8. Go fish around, lots of people are complaining about it.

It does, and so does the Classified 760.

x4 is for a sound or physx card. (which really only need x1)

When I get mine, I'll test the 260 in the x8 and x4 slots, and see if it really even uses that.

D:

So I finally got the $$$ for the upgrade, but now my parent's don't want me to spend it. So can ya'll provide me with a list of reasons it's worth upgrading from an AM2 Athlon x2 2.8 ghz to this (that I can use against them)?

Things to factor in:
-College Student
-I dunno what else. xD

If you're getting good grades. I'm not sure why they wouldn't buy you a new PC for an early christmas or birthday present.

If you're not getting good grades, you could show your parents that you actually care about school and set priorities. If your friends call, tell them no because you have to study.

If you stay up late, you can use the excuse that a faster PC will help you get your work done faster. So you can get a good nights rest to focus in class.

Majoring in art (Photoshop excuse?)
GPA: 3.497, so yeah, I care, but they aren't paying, I am, I just have to go through them (which sucks)
Staying up late excuse won't pull weight with them. :/

Photoshop excuse could work. Depending on area of art you're majoring in, you may need physics rendering for proper animation and what not. That might require a high end system with powerful graphical capabilities. It would also help you understand objects in motion and how to draw them better if you had a computer with physics capabilities.
And that's a decent GPA, tell them to assure that you keep that GPA up and that you're prepped AFTER school for a proper career that you'll need the best equipment for presentations and what not and now's a good time to buy.
These likely won't work but eh.. you asked for ideas. Star

I'll wait until I actually take some art classes (lmao none yet) to see if that's a possibility.

I *might* minor in 3D Modeling/animation, so we will see....

Edit: I *do* have to buy a tablet, so if I can get it to have a delay through some program or another, I could blame it on a cheap CPU (spent $20 on it, yet I spent $240 on my GPU, wtf?) Dead

Sorry to drop in on this thread, (price no object), what is the best motherboard the DS is offering?(I7 920 or I7 965 CPU) I want a board that is stable, has room for 2 or 3 video cards, plus sound card and possibly a Xeno killer pro networking card. I am thinking of 3 GTX 275's or 2 GTX 295's. Is there a better MOBO out there on the market that I can have DS order?Star

That sounds like the LE .. and maybe the Classfied.. though if your internet connection is any good you don't really need the xeno pro

LE or classified x58 can do that for you, the Xeno killer pro is a waste of money.

Dunno really, they finally put in the hardware firewall and it'll download to an external source while your comp is off (i think, i know that was a beta driver). That's kinda neat.
