K, so I understand folks really like the Turtle Beach cans (AK-R8 & HPA2). Razor offers a quality product. What do you like?

If I am not mistaken, the razor phones are manufactured by the same sub-contractor.
The HPA2s are sweet... the other one uses USB and doesnt utilize the sound card (if you have one) and if you have a sound card you might as well use it!

I would get a pair of the Turtle Beach Ear Force HPA2 5.1 if I knew for sure they were comfortable wearing for long periods. I have a couple of styles of headphones for my Mp3 player and the style I like that feels the best is the behind-the-head style. If I find a good deal on a pair of HPA2, I may get them. |

I agree with Ed, I got the HPA2's and they are very comfortable. I really really like em, and you can crank it up so loud it will make your ears bleed. They sound really well and don't shift from left to right or anything to that sort.

Post links/pics to the headsets you're referring too.
If you're looking for a cheap but well worth it headset. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826106931 although it appears that the quality of the product you receive is hit or miss (customer reviews), if you get a good one it has amazing sound and good mic volume. |

I like the style and I definitely like the price. I may buy a pair this week end if I don't find the HPA2 at a great price sooner. |

Thanks guys. I went with the on-board integrated sound card on my DS machine. I'm not really sure yet if the mobo/soundcard supports Surround Sound. I may have to upgrade to a seperate sound card first, which is something I really wanna do anyway. That's a whole new topic I guess. What do youz guys like in sound cards anyway?

Well, the SB X-FI Fatality that they installed in my rig is awesome. Very nice card and no hiccups thus far. I'm telling you, the TB HPA2 is one nice freaking headset. You would not be disappointed for the price.

Thanks Ed, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get a set. Also, I'll check out SB X-FI's.

Ok, that tears it! I just read where this sound card (SB X-FI Xtreme), can actually increase over all PC performance by up to 15%! I suppose that would prolly apply to any sound card because the card frees up memory and all that. But THIS card sounds like a dream. Circuit City's gottem' for like 90 bux. Gonna swing by there today and grab me one. Also, Fry's carries the TB HPA2's but they're currently outta' stock. Man, what a bummer. I really like buying things like this from a local retailer just in case there's a problem with the unit(s), and its easier to return. Thanks again guys for you help. Appreciate your suggestion Ed about the SB X-Fi. |

I have a question about the Turtle Beach HPA2. Is the earphone cushioning easily replicable if replaceable at all? And how much for replacements?

The short answer... yes.
Although, the wrap fits into a very thin channel and once off, they are quite hard to get back in. The wrap can be replaced if needed, but they've designed the cushion in the pad so that it most likely won't have to be replaced from wear issues. You would probably find yourself replacing them because of damage issues rather than wear issues. I actually called them and spoke about this very question for future reference and the tech was very helpful. As big as this set is, they are extremely comfortable. |

I picked up a SB X-FI Xtreme sound card today. Ok, a HUGE difference I must admit. I'm still getting used to the EQ for my ear, but yeah, it's sweet alright. Sadly, in a few days I won't even notice the differences anymore. I just hate that!

Pop a Quaalude and a couple of Hydrocodone and wash it down with a southern comfort chaser. It'll sound better.
