So question just bought my 2nd pc it should be here in the next few days. Im a repair technician and i know from first hand experince surge protectors dont always protect. So when im at work and cant unplug my system does the part replacement plan i got cover lightning damage? Asking just incase because we get alot of storms

I'm not sure if the DS warranty covers that. I would be surprised if it does, but I honestly don't know.
A lot of surge protectors have their own coverage warranties, and even those don't cover direct lightning strikes. Well, at least mine don't. Another option would be to look into home owners insurance that will cover lightning damage to electronics. |

Definitely check your renters insurance policy. They might cover this. And if they don't, you might be able to add coverage for something like this.

The higher the Joule rating the better and don't skimp. Make sure it has a reset switch and not a fusible link. Those are one and done.
Regardless, NO surge protector will save you from a direct hit, but the higher the Joule rating, the closer a strike can be without doing damage. |

Another feature I look for is a surge protector that actually shuts off when it detects that it's surge protection has failed. For example, a lot of surge protecters have an indicator light that shows whether the surge protection is working, and that light is the only indication that it's functioning. The light may go out one day, and you'll never notice it. I would prefer that the surge protector actually shut off when it fails.
