I've never messed with liquid cooling before and I was wondering what kind of upkeep it requires. I'm not big on upgrading and like to get the beefiest system I can so it lasts as long as possible.
That's the current config I'm looking at getting , any comments/suggestions?
Mainly concerned with getting the right mobo to support that processor and dual gpus.
I've also never messed with SLI/dual graphics cards...is it worth the money?...hassle free?
Thanks,

disclaimer: all of this is just my opinion. Wait for a DS staff person to tell you how far off I am
![]() That motherboard is fine for dual (or triple) GPUs, as well as that processor. Drop the network card, it will do nothing for you. I'm not sure what kind of power a dual liquid cooling system takes, but my instinct tells me that your power supply is major overkill. If you want to save a little money, drop the overclock on the video cards. Ultras don't usually overclock very well, as they are already overclocked GTXes. Liquid cooling is great if you don't plan on pulling out your cards and swapping stuff around for a while. Otherwise, it can make a simple upgrade into a test of patience. SLI isn't really going to be worth it with a 19" monitor. If you do go with SLI though, I would consider dual booting into Windows XP. Vista SLI support is still shaky at best, and I personally have run into numerous headaches with my Vista SLI setup. It's certainly do-able... but I wouldn't say hassle free. Other than that, looks great. Even if you don't change a thing you'll be fine I think... but you could save a lot of money and lose almost no performance if you made those few changes. Thanks for the feedback Mythius, Why exactly would the monitor matter with dual gpus? I was thinking if they function correctly two cards would simply outperform one and last longer when games get beefier requirements. aka save an upgrade to 9x nvidias when they arrive.

personally if i was running duel GPUs id go for any monitor that supports 19xx x 12xx or above rez. I think those start appearing on the 24in ones. They usually run anywhere from 400-700 bucks from where ive been looking.

I'm guessing from these responses that there really isn't any performance returns on standard resolutions such as 1024x768 with an sli setup?
If not I guess I should just go with one card and upgrade it down the road when it can't hack max settings on current games.

no, there isn't any performance gain to go with SLi with anythign less than 1920x1280.
As far as your setup goes, there's also no performance gain with 2xgpu and CPU on the same coolant loop. You would want to consider just cooling the CPU or get a dual loop. 1 loop for the CPU and 1 loop for the Dual GPU.
Other than that, it's just cycling the heated coolant back and forth. THere just isn't enough radiators. You may as well stick with air cooling.

Thanks for the response Kelly!
The cooling selection was a mistake on my part, but now I guess I'm going to go with one gpu anyway, so I will just liquid cool the cpu and save a ton of cash.
How often will I need to refill/cap off the liquid coolant? .. What's the price on refills?
I love these forums btw, reading customers posts and DS responses has really sold me on buying from you guys.
