Hello,
I am still considering a DSO system and would prefer to go with a LC system. It gets pretty hot in where I live in California and have always had air-cooled systems and the problems that come with them. I was wondering if any of you guys could shed some light on the maintenance required with such systems. I guess how often you need to refill or check the resevoir, anything to that extent. Like I said, I've never owned a LC system before so I would like to know what to expect.
Thanks, AR

I do not know what DS policy is on water cooling upkeep, but, having had a lot of water cooled rigs, I can tell you that at first the water level may drop, as the air works out, so may have to top off, might not. the tubing will allow for a slight amount of evaporation, so every 6 months or so it will drop a little bit.
I try to flush out the water every year, although some go longer, I also take apart the water block(s) to see if there is any build up on the inside, and to make sure all is healthy.
If everything is clean, and flushed properly, at the time of original install, I could see a PC going 3 years without touching anything, except for a few topping offs of the reservoir.

Thanks justin.kerr! That's some great advice.
@Aroberts0820, you don't need to go that extreme, but, here are some details. We do top off the reservoir system and let the air bleed out as much as possible before the systems ship. We mostly use clear fluid which doesn't have all the dyes which can clog up a system. The tubing we use is rather thick and diffused with color to prevent as much of the liquid from evaporating. |
