Ok so I've decided to buy this computer from DS.
http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=341241 The overall parts to the computer are basically the same. (No upgrades) Im wondering how the liquid cooling system for this computer will work. It says that it comes with the H2): Stage 1: Asetek Liquid CPU Coooler (240mm Radiator)(High Performance Edition). About how many times will I have to change the liquid/coolant? (Ex: Every XX Months) When I order this from DS will it come with a free bottle of coolant with it or something or will I have to go and order one with it and if so where is a good place? Does the kind of coolant matter? Ive heard some bad things on liquid cooling as well, such as that if even a single drop gets on a part of the computer it basically fries the whole system. Does this also apply to the non-conductive ones as well? Please tell me any other things about liquid cooling that you think will help me, thanks. (As you can tell Im really new to the whole liquid cooling) |

sounds like whoever talked to you about LC had no idea what they were talking about, it can spill and nothing will happen cause it is non conductive fluid, I don't know anybody that uses a conductive fluid, simply cause that would be stupid.
asetek is not a real LC system and it does not provide the performance of a real LC system, frostbite is a real lc system. asetek does not work the same way either, in short you don't need to add fluids and such to asetek, if I were you I would either go with frostbite or Noctua NH-U12P. your build has got lot of things you don't need and are waste. What resolution will you be gaming at? Edited by DST4ME - 07 Nov 2009 at 5:23pm |

Ok so no liquid cooling is neccessary right? What is the biggest difference in performance between liquid cooling and the air cooling?

temps under load, LC always gives the best temps under load, but I'm talking about frostbite here and not asetek.

Just got my system today and already have a question about the liquid cooling. When I first started the system, it gurgled a little and sounded like someone peeing LOL. That only lasted a couple of seconds then it was silent. Later on it made that sound again for a couple of seconds, and has been silent ever since. Since I have never had a LC system before, I was wondering if this is normal? I am trying to tell if the red liquid is moving through the tubes but can't really tell. The top of the fluid in the reservoir keeps waving around like it's moving, so it would seem all is well.
I'll post a review later tonight when I've had more time to mess with it. |

if the liquid didn't move your temps would shoot up and things would get hot.

what about the "trickling water" noise? Is that normal occasionally?

You can get flow meters and install them in-line if you're the enterprising sort, but the easiest way to make sure your LC system is operational is as DST4ME said, monitoring your temps.
For the CPU I really like Realtemp. It doesn't have a windows startup option but that's easy done by just placing it in the Startup folder. I glance at it every now and then. It also keeps track of the maximum and minimum temps from the moment it's booted, and I like to check out how my latest game heated up the CPU and GPU's (using Precision for the latter).
There's other good utilities like HWMonitor and CPU-Z also. Some like Everest, and I've heard good things about it, but you have to pay for that one.

the trickling noise is air working out of the system, should not make a peep once it is bled out.

Thanks for the recommendations on the software, I was interested in getting a temp monitoring program but didn't know what to use. Now I do!
