Okay, you just bought your first desktop in ages (having switched to a mobile notebook that can be anywhere -- even sideways between two books, if need be). So... where do you put it?

Check Workstation Setups for just that very thing.

On the other hand, if you already have something set up, please provide a picture for all to see.

The best location for a gaming rig is off the floor, basically.  I used to have mine on a 6" platform but moved it to a little- used wooden file cabinet that sits 2 feet off the floor.  Others put the rig on the desk, next to keyboard and monitor, both for dust and so they can enjoy the internal lights, fan LED's, etc.
 
Dust and pet hair are it's enemy and keeping it away from the rug or floor where they like to swirl and gather is the way to go.
 
A desk, file cabinet. old tv stand, small sturdy table all work well.
