ok, first I'm not one to spend 3000 on a desktop

Married with 2 kids and full time student just doesn't give me that much flexibility

However, I have been looking for weeks for what company to get my desktop from. i have looked everything from cyberpower to alienware etc..

However once i find a company i do allot of research on customer server etc. as I'm willing to pay extra for that company that goes above and beyond. I believe i have found that here at Digital Storm.

With all the above in mind i am looking at the ODE 1 (Dual Video Cards really serves no purpose as i use dual 26" screens)

the stats are as follows ( i do have concerns regarding the motherboard but believe the rest of the system makes up for it in the end)

Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Pre-built Digital Storm ODE Level 1

If you are gaming on both monitors, why is there no need for sli? that is where sli really comes into play, at higher res.

personally I like the 750w hx psu much better, it has a 7 year warranty and its good psu.

what are your concerns about the mobo?

We can't beat the price of ode in the custom config section.

the 750 hx has a 7 year warranty, the 600cx has a 3 year warranty, I suggest going with the higher end psu. the hx is a much better quality psu than the cx.

agreed mate.. however it is my understanding they will not let you modify the custom builds

in addition as far as the dual video goes.. cyberpower offers a amd with dual ati cards for 1500.. but then i lose a ton of quality and what garbage i may get..

guess i could always buy the psu aftermarket

I would not go with the 560 ti. It is better to go with the 570/580. The 560 Ti is overclocked and does not give you anything from a stock 560
the research I have done the i5 2500k is better for gaming
the i7 2600k is better for things like video rendering, photoshop.

if you are just playing games with no to light video rendering/photoshop you could take the ram down to 6GB to save a little money If you do heavy video rendering/photoshop you should stay with the 8GB

the 1TB western digital is a faster drive than the one you have on your build for $34 more I would put it on.

You guys need to take those benchamarks with a grain of salt.

also those are test benchanes they don't run the same things me and you run.

in the long run the 2600k is the better choice, once more games that support cores/threads comeout, you guys are gonna miss out on those, and plus in a couple of years you gonna wish you had a 2600k when it comes to performance.

Keep in mind the apps/games of future are going to be more demanding then the ones today, don't just buy a pc for today, keep the future in mind.

Remember win7 itself makes use of HT.

your config is not a good one IMHO

the 750w psu you chose has a 2 year warranty at best.

Asetek is not a great cooler or one that we recommend

If you're looking to sacrifice CPU power in order to make budget then I'd say go with the ODE lvl 1. I know the PSU probably isn't the best, but what you're getting can't be beat in the configurator for the price. I agree that the HX is leaps and bounds above the quality of the CX, but to configure something with the stuff you want is going to cost quite a bit more. If you can find the extra cast somewhere then, custom might be the answer, but if not I wouldn't sacrifice your CPU to make budget.

The PSU and the motherboard we offer in the ODE Level 1 are there because they allow us to offer the best performance for the dollar without sacrificing quality or reliability. Yes, there are power supplies that have 7 years out there, but, they are more expensive, and our ODE Level 1 configuration doesn't really need such a high-end PSU. The power supply is still a Corsair, and the motherboard is still an Asus, both are excellent and top brands in their fields.

We do extensively stress-test every system to ensure no customer gets any defective or poor performing system. Rest assured, what ever you purchase from us will be a great configuration that we would stand behind.

Alex is correct tho I like to add that there is a world of difference between one corsair and another, for example while I might highly recommend one corsair psu, you will also find me highly not recommend another corsair psu.

its just a matter of what kind of quality and how long of a warranty you looking for.

at the end DS has great customer service so no matter what you are in good hands

Thanks Guys

I think Alex nailed it on the head. If i was looking for a 7 year warranty ton a psu i might as well build it myself.

DS is known for standing behind their product and this puts me at rest. If i do have a issue with the supplied psu then i will contact DS and have it resolved.. i have a extra in the mean time lol.

The motherboard does make worry me as much.. as stated i don't plan on sli so why have a board that supports it.

for either item if i have a issue in 3 years DS will take care of me. If i just wanted parts and didn't care about the customer service well then we would all go to cyberpower and mobile piles of crap.

I am aware that manufacturers have different lines. low end to high end.

Thanks Alex.. i look forward to doing business with DS.. ill be waiting for the student stuff to roll around.. (sorry for any typos its 2am here)

I am looking to purchase an ODE level 1 in the coming weeks as well...

BUT I saw that you guys are offering a student discount, and I'll be starting class in August, any idea WHEN that discount will become available? :D

Also, (I'm a bit of a newbie) but if I wanted to swap out the A70 fans down the road, for say an H60 Corsair liquid system, would you recommend that? And if I did, would the entire machine still be covered in the 3 year warranty?

Thanks!

Believe it or not the A70 is actually better than the H60 by a significant margin. It's even better than the H70. If anything we'd recommend swapping out H60/70's for an A70 as it performs better and is cheaper, with no risks of leak. No need to swap.

jecaron, just to confuse you even more, there was and I think still is an ODE build that was short lived.  Alex said it wasn't all that popular so they reconfigured the ODE line-up.  Here it is   http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadode.asp?id=571772

It is only the 15-2500k and GTX 560 gpu, with everything else like psu, LE mobo the same, but if you're really tight on funds like I was, then this build is $1199.  I ordered this with 5year labor/ 3year parts, figuring in a year or two the saved $300 could buy a reduced in price 570/580 if needed.
Will I kick myself in 3yrs? maybe, but budgets can be tight.
DST and the rest are right, if you can go GTX 570 and the i7-2600k cpu then 3years from now you'll be a bit happier.  My decision was the ODE$1499 without added warranty or the other with 3yrs parts.  Being a 30 year field service vet did sway my decision.

Just another opinion which is what makes this forum so much fun.

jecaroon, Just another thought...You mentioned maybe going elsewhere for better prices and we can all relate, but, to keep things positive  because these forums don't like to trash talk other vendors for good reason, if you do run into a  service issue Digital Storm has the best reputation for 'getting it done'.

No vendor is perfect but I decided to go DS and for $1199 or $1499 ODE you really are hard pressed to do better elsewhere. IMHO

bprat.. thanks.. ya i will not go to another vendor outside of DS that is for sure.. unless i open up some free time to build and i dont see that either.. 1499 is the perfect price point.. and if any discount comes into play ill have to wait and see..

thanks guys

Well just to clear it up, DS 3 year warranty is only one year part warranty, so that is why I stress high warranty for psu. otherwise after the first year you have to pay cost of shipping back and forth and you have to pay for the part also.

The chance of a power supply going bad after our stress-testing, and after 1 year, is very, very low. Don't forget, even if it's past a year, you can still directly replace it with Corsair as well.

We do offer longer warranty plans as well if a customer would rather have us take care of the replacement parts.

I can't agree with that statement, there is no way to tell if a any part is gonna go bad or not in the future with any test.

we know people on this forum that have had to change psu, I have had to do 2 myself.

that is the whole point of warranty, so when things go bad you are covered, if it was that easy, I personally would not even get warranty, but I get it cause so many things can go and have gone wrong in the past.

Also with a midrange/low range psus like the cx the chances of things going wrong are higher IMHO and my experience.

Bravo corsair, its with 3 yrs warranty, but u have to RMA it 300 times i guess

As I told sandz and I always say to everybody else, just because its corsair, it does not mean its quality psu. higher end models use better parts in the psu, and each model has a different manufacturer.

For example you guys stopped using the 850w corsair tx because it was a crappy psu.

That is why I recommend to people go with highest warranty from DS, so they can be covered more then a year, and why I went with a 5 year part warranty myself.

We can do all the tests in the world, as of right now there is no way to tell if any part will go bad in the future.

I went with the added 2 year extension, 5yrs labor/3yrs parts, for $199 because, from my field experience things can crap out anytime and any place. What works great today can die tomorrow.  Nothing against anybody or any company but those are the facts.
Hopefully, like any insurance policy, the $199 will turn out to be a waste of money, my pc never needing to use the service.  Plus, dealing with one source like DS for parts replacement will be quicker and less demanding than dealing with the manufacturer.  Most manuf. will be ok to deal with just not as convenient.

Ya I'm with you on that one, I rather pay for a 5 year part warranty and have nothing go wrong.

I also rather have my warranty thru DS instead of the manufacturer.
