I am looking to get a brand new PC soon. I almost got a DS before awhile ago but never ended up doing it but now i want to. What i want for this pc is
I am going to be running 2 monitors at 1080p and a TV hooked up at 720p(If this matters, this won't really be used unless i want to watch something on it. And if it is going to change performance i could always disable it until i need it.) Primary game is League of Legends(Not very demanding at all.) But, i would like to be able to stream with it. I play lots of other games also. So on 1 of the monitors i would have league of legends and other the other it would be a stream chat and maybe a few browser windows. Budget ~ 1500 but i am willing to go up or down depending on what is needed. Like i said my focus is LoL but i do play other things so i'd like to get a good overall set up that i can play any game out at 60FPS on pretty decent settings. |

The Vanquish is the best deal from DS: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/vanquish.asp
If you would like a small form factor, sounds like this might be in the living room, then bolt is a good option: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/bolt.asp They have some pre-built Bolt options for the Holidays that are good deals: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/forums/holiday-specials-bolt-ready-to-ship-deals-tidf21392/ Are you planning on having the game on both monitors or use one for game and the other for stuff (i.e. web browser)? |

L4 Vanquish is definitely the best buy in your price range. Specs can't be matched by any custom built system here...

I also vote Vanquish level 4 for your budget. You can do custom setups so you can pick different components, but it will be more money for the same gaming.
Lots of ways to go.

I did look at that but you don't think getting a GTX 780 or a R9 290 and 16GB memory is worth getting?

Those are always good option if they fit into your budget. Only you can determine whether the L4 Vanquish for $1350 is good enough or if the L3 Bolt at $1900 is still in your budget. More is always better but it comes at a price...

"Is 16 GB memory worth it?" I found this chart at http://www.techbuyersguru.com/RAMgaming.php dated Aug 23, 2013.
FPS is about the same for 4 GB vs. 8 GB. Extrapolating, I would say that since 8 GB offers no performance increase, then neither will 16 GB. |

You could go to the Virtue, Slade systems, and plug in a gtx 780 and 16gb ram. The 780 will give you about a 20% better fps over the vanquish 4's gtx 770 but is more money. 8gb ram is all you need as the graph forrest74 put up shows. 16Gb might be used for heavy multi-tasking, etc , but for most the 8GB is great.
A typical gtx 780 system will stretch your budget to around the $2000 mark, give or take, and for your single gaming monitor and the games, the gtx 770 will play great. The gtx 780 does give you more headroom for the future, so your call.

Here's one way to go. It does stretch the budget but does give you a larger case, better cooling, the gtx 780, a better power supply and the Noctua cpu cooler for tops in reliability.
Config # 905099 Cost $ 2095

We mentioned the Vanquish 4 because it doesn't shatter your budget and gets the job done. But, a little extra $$ does give you a better case, psu, graphics card, etc.
Good Luck. Edited by bprat22 - 13 Dec 2013 at 6:31am |

If you mean the 8gb vs 16gb ram, I really can't say for sure with streaming. I thought I read that 8gb was optimal, but if you're going to have multiple windows open across double monitor then maybe. I guess, if in doubt ,go for the 16gb. It certainly won't hurt and might help. 16GB has become the new normal, mainly because it was very cheap to go from 8-16gb. Its not as cheap right now, but still not bad.
Several months ago it was about $50 to go 8-16gb. Now its $95. Not a deal breaker but still makes one think twice versus before when another $40-50 on a $2000 rig was a nit.
Edit... seems like the more I look into it, the more the 16gb ram might be it. Rumors are the Steam machines will be standard 16gb and SteamOS might be a memory hog, but I'm still new with it.
Be interesting to see what DS's new Steam Machine, to be spec'd next month, will have for ram. Edited by bprat22 - 13 Dec 2013 at 10:53am |
