Hello everyone,
I've been gaming on a Core 2 Duo 15" MacBook pro, and while it has been okay it's just not cutting it for WoW and I am also now moving to SWTOR now to game more heavily (and will probably play Diablo 3 when it comes out). I'm looking at the ODE level 3, but the only thing that bothers me from the reviews are critics saying that it's not very future-proof? Can anyone extrapolate on this? Also, I'm looking to stay in the same price range as the ODE 3, but honestly am just looking for something to last for the next 4-5 years and let me do college work as well as have no hiccups in my gaming on ultra settings. Thanks for any advice it is much appreciated! |

Oh, and since I was looking to upgrade to the 27" iMac screen, I really want a pretty good resolution monitor for gaming preferably between 24"-27"
Once again, any advice is appreciated! |

Well wow and SWTOR don't utilize sli correctly so sli would be no use to you on those games.
there is no such thing as future proof. the only way to be future proof in games is to upgrade gpu/s once every 2 years, with ode 3 in the future if you want to upgrade the sli to future cards and they have needs of a 580 sli the 800w can't do it. Having said that I don't think you need sli, So you need to tell us if you want no sli ability or you do want sli ability in case you play some game in the future that does need it. |

No, I wouldn't have any need for the SLI unless some game utilized it, but isn't it better to have the capability just in case?
And shouldn't I still be able to upgrade the graphics cards and upgrade to the new Ivy Bridge chips with the ODE 3 and the 800w? |

As I mentioned if new gpus have needs similar to 580 then no you could not upgrade to sli 580 for exmaple.
if you have no need for sli then ode 3 is lot of waste, if you want the option then what you do is go custom config that can do sli but has one gpu. you can upgrade cpu to ivy bridge, but you won't be able to take full advantage of all its abilities, you would need a ivy bridge mobo to do that. Ok so i ordered my Ode level 3 today!!! In the end it just was the best choice for me as an upgrade.
Now I'm on the hunt for a really good monitor! Looking for something 24" or bigger and with the resolution to utilize the sheer power my new rig will be putting out. Any help is appreciated! |

Does the 8ms response time on the first link affect gaming at all?
I know that gamers look for the 2ms response time typically, besides that the monitor looks really awesome |

Most important thing about a monitor is its panel, right now there are 2 major ones, TN and IPS, IPS has superior picture quality/clarity.
1. response time is a bs number, its there to fool you and does not represent the true response time of the monitor, there is no real way of truly finding what response time is, the closest to it is white to white but you don't see that, you see grey to grey or black to black cause they give small numbers to fool users but they don't mean anything, there are different methods to get these numbers also, and each will give a different number as results, therefore you can even compare one to the other, cause we don't know what method was used for which, and even if we did, still GTG or BTB don't mean anything. 2. contrast ratio is also bs number. that asus is not as good as the Dell monitors I posted. |
