well its time i think for me to upgrade to a sound card and some speakers, there are so many options to go with this i figured id ask the forum guru's.

first off i will b gaming mostly, listening to music and watching movies, more or less in tht order.

i would like utilize 7.1 surround sound for my headphones, also i would like surround sound speakers aswell for my comp. although some good 5.1 i can go with

i done some research on both sound cards and speaker set ups, to b honest im more lost thn ever b4 just info overload i think.

HT OMEGA CLARO 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Sound Card i was looking at, looks like a nice card..anything omega i think im leaning towards

I use a Logitech z906 speakers with a Auzen X-FI Hometheater HD sound card. The speakers have very good sound and are 5.1. The Auzen will give you the choice to switch different modes.(Gaming, Entertainment, and Audio Creation).

well the  HT | OMEGA Claro Halo 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Sound Card w/ a built-in HI-FI Headphone Amplifier.

i think im leaning towards these cuz i do game with my razor megladons, usb headset, and also listen to music through my speakers, ( ordering the logitec z9 5.1 system)

i would love some feedback on if i will even be able to use my usb headset w/ these or not, im not to sure cuz they only have rca jacks. will i b able to plug my headset in the back io port and still b able to take advantage of this card or do i have to connect directly to the card i guess is my question,

Hi Aka,

First let me say I am no expert on multi channel head phones but here are some thoughts.

Unless your sound card has an USB port you can't use your USB headset on the sound card. With USB headsets the audio is picked up off of the USB channel and your headset decodes the digital signal in the headset its self. 5.1 headsets have multiple speakers in each headset and the decoded signal is converted to analog signals then going to the appropriate little speaker in the headphone. With analog headsets, or speakers, the decoding and A/D and D/A is done in the sound card.

So the sound that comes out of the sound card is independent from the sound coming from the USB that is using VOIP from the USB bus. You can hook up your 5.1 speaker system and it will work from the sound card. You can hook up the USB headphones to the USB Bus independent of the soundboard.

I have never used 5.1 headphones but I would think the quality of the sound will be inferior of that coming from good speakers. Not even considering the size of the tiny speakers in the headset. With a good speaker/amp system you can easily differentiate the direction the sound is coming from with ease. Having the speakers in a headset so close together would make it harder to determine the direction of the sound. The ear is a marvelous thing and I guess with practice you will be able to tell that sounds from the rear comes to your ear from a certain speaker. Or sounds from the side come from another speaker. Over time the brain will just start recognizing what speaker is producing the sound and tell you it is behind or to the side of you.

Frank

hey frank, ya thnx for the info on the usb headset, there actually suppose to be 7.1, if its tru is a totally dif story, dont get me wrong best pair of headphones ive ever
owned, but i get wat ur sayin with a good speaker set up. i thought mayb tht the sound card would change the sound within the comp, like the on board sound so i could use the usb port, guess thts not the case.

wat would u recommend say soundcard, speaker set combo, i was looking at 5.1 systems, the logitec z9** were the only ones tht really interested me. for a amp combo i would b lost, think i have an ancient sony one lol for sound card im pretty much cluelessConfused ...ne insight would b greatly appreciated Frustrated

it was either soundcard + speakers, or sdd + bluray drive. Think ill get the speakers and souncard out of the way first LOL
